English Walks

English Walks Englischkonversation beim Gehen mit Native Speaker "brush up your English" Schulenglisch ist ausreichend und ein Einstieg ist jederzeit möglich.

e have a row of aronia bushes that have now grown well over our heads. Last year, we covered the bushes with nets and harvested 6 liters of berries. This year, there were no nets. In the spring, seeing the berries that were still green, we thought: This is going to be great again!
The blackbirds didn’t care what we thought and devoured all the berries before they had even ripened to black-purple. They ate everything—nothing left! Just the bare stems. The berry in the background of the photo has since disappeared as well.

We discovered in an old edition of the french journal "Écoute" an article mentioning the food bowls used in the Middle Ages. The lucky ones had a hand carved food bowl and spoon of their own, which was rather rare. "DEN LÖFFEL ABGEBEN" {to pass the spoon/to kick the bucket} **) The saying dates back to a time when people owned their own personal spoons, which were often hung on a wall rack.
“Handing over” or “hanging up” the spoon signaled the end of a meal. Farmhands or maids were often lent spoon and bowl on farms. Upon termination of service (or death), it had to be returned, symbolizing the loss of one’s livelihood.
After death, the personal spoon was often passed down within the family to the youngest member.

In our discussions so far, we have noted: A fit of laughter, laughter itself, is a physical — often uncontrollable — reaction to external stimuli. However, a smile (not a malicious one) also responds to what you experience, reflecting your positive, intentional feeling of joy, friendliness and goodwill.

We talked about 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. They do it particularly in the form of "play vocalizations"{Stimmlaute} during tickling, wrestling, or chasing.
A UCLA{University California/Los Angeles} study identified at least 65 species that exhibit laughter-like behavior: primates, rats, dogs, birds, cows, foxes, mongooses, ...

Lilian: ... My first reaction when the AI spit out really good analysis results and comparison tables{Vergleichtstabellen} was one of shock. I’ve always considered that beeing one of my strengths: clearly distilling complexity down to the essentials{auf das Wesentliche reduzieren}... ...
That prompted us to ask AI (Gemini): Can we trust what you say? The answer was quite extensive and impressive... Here is the closing sentence:
Tip: Think of AI as a highly talented but occasionally dishonest intern{flunkernden Praktikanten}. You’re the editor-in-chief. The intern provides the draft{Entwurf}, but you’re responsible for the accuracy{Wahrheitsgehalt} and quality of the final product.
