As we head back to the office for 2026, we attack the dreaded inbox backlog. Remember these few simple rules to help protect against scams

✅ Don’t click links
✅ Verify the senders email address
✅ Be wary of emails containing urgency eg. ‘Your account is about to expire’
✅If a PDF attachment is blurry and asks you to click a link for better quality, this is likely a scam, even if it’s from a trusted source
✅ Any emails requesting money, gift cards or iTunes cards are a scam

Remember, we all make mistakes. If you do accidentally click something, or enter your password into a suspected scam website, call us straight away so we can help.

Stay Safe!

Happy New Year from the team at Bitflo, we hope you have an amazing start to 2026!

Are you still running Windows 10? Something we have been asked quite a bit is why it's now deemed 'unsafe' to still run Windows 10.

Now that Windows 10 has reached the end of it's life, it's no longer being updated for security by Microsoft. Even if you run an up to date antivirus, you are still not protected against vulnerabilities which sit inside Windows itself.

What does this mean? If you are still running Windows 10, you are exposing yourself to an increased risk of attack which could lead to data loss, data leaks and attacks on things which your computer is connected to such as your office or home network.

We can help! Reach out to us for a chat on how we can assist with your migration to Windows 11.

Scammers are getting smarter and their scams are becoming harder to spot. We have noticed an increase in phishing emails targeting small business and often, these emails look as though they are coming from a legitimate company.

Here are 5 quick tips to help you stay safe

✅ Check the sender address - Does the address look unusual in any way or slightly mis spelled? Legitimate companies typically don't use free email services such as gmail our outlook

✅ Verify links before clicking - A great way to stay safe is to 'test' the link to check it's legitimacy before clicking. Simply right click the link and choose copy hyperlink. Paste the link into a word document and verify where the link is sending you by reading the domain part of the link (eg. https://www.bitflo.com.au/thisisalink), if the link does not look like it's going to the correct location, it may be a scam

✅ Urgency or threats - Phrases such as "Act now or loose access" usually are a red flag. Scammers love pressure tactics, before responding to these messages, make sure you verify the legitimacy of the message

✅ Spelling and grammar mistakes - Legitimate emails are usually professionally written, spelling and grammar mistakes are usually a red flag

✅ Email verification - If you receive an email from your email provider (Gmail, Microsoft, Yahoo etc) asking you to click a link and login to confirm your account or update your password, these are a scam. Never click a link from an email and enter your credentials

The most important part of security is to not bury your head in the sand. We all make mistakes and it's important to quickly act if we do make a mistake. If you suspect you have entered your password into a scam website, immediately change your password and contact your IT company for further advice.

If you would like some advice on your current security posture, our managed security systems or chat about some of our automated staff security training, we would love to chat. Give us a call on 1300 BITFLO (1300 248 356).

We have had quite a few reports of EOFY Phishing scams coming through in the last few days. Be careful when opening emails, verify the sender and avoid clicking on any links.

If you do find a scam email in your inbox, here is what you should do.

DO delete the email
DO report the email as spam if you use enterprise spam software
AVOID forwarding the email around the office to warn colleagues
AVOID clicking on links or opening attachments

If you do accidentally click something, don't be embarrassed, we all make a mistake. Inform your manager or IT department immediately to verify no action is required.
