Another milestone in cinematic capture for live production! 🎉

Around twenty cameras from Sony’s Cinema Line including the VENICE 2, ILME-FR7 and ILME-FX6, were selected to cover the Sagrada Familia celebrations during Pope Leo XIV’s historic visit! ⛪️

The unique architecture of the Sagrada Familia – with its variable natural lighting, hard-to-access spaces and the colossal scale of the site – placed exceptional demands on the 3Cat team. 💪

But both the creative and production teams rose to the challenge of using cinema cameras to cover this event, a spectacle of light and sound that combines cinematic language and live broadcasting with an unprecedented result... 👀

Commissioned for Amazon Prime and shot on the Sony VENICE 2 by Mark Patten BSC, this is Guy Ritchie’s take on Young Sherlock – now available to watch on Amazon Prime.

In this version, Holmes is an undisciplined 19-year-old working at Oxford University. When Sherlock becomes embroiled in a murder at the university, he realises that the only way to stay out of prison is to prove his innocence by solving the case.

“When Lucie shared her story with me, I was immediately struck by her strength and resilience. It was clear her journey deserved more than words - it needed to be captured on film. That’s when I proposed making a documentary about her.

“The FX3 camera let me move seamlessly between Thailand’s bright, chaotic streets and the dim, intimate spaces where Lucie opened up about her past. Its dynamic range and high ISO capabilities meant I could capture both the energy of the environment and the vulnerability of Lucie’s reflections, creating a coherent emotional journey for the audience.”

Sony Announces the Development of the RIALTO 65! 🎉

At this year’s Cine Gear in Los Angeles, we’re excited to announce the development of our upcoming new RIALTO 65, featuring an all new 9.6k sensor with a diagonal size of approx. 64.60mm able to record 3:2 open gate and other sensor readout modes. Designed to extend the capabilities of the VENICE 2 platform, the new sensor reinforces Sony’s focus on supporting cinematographers with flexible, future-ready tools.

Also at Cine Gear, VENICE 2 firmware V5.0 is announced, which introduces the new pre-installed “Signature” LUT for on-set monitoring, delivering natural colour reproduction, enhanced skin tones and smooth tonal gradation. VENICE 2 V5 will be available later this summer.
