COVID-19 Deaths Surge in Australian Aged Care: Time for Enhanced Protection

The impact of COVID-19 on our elderly has reached concerning levels. Recent data reveals a stark reality: COVID-related deaths in Australian residential aged care have more than doubled compared to peak pandemic periods.
The numbers tell a sobering story:
2,415 COVID-related deaths from February 2020 to May 2022 (15 months)
4,778 COVID-related deaths from May 2022 to January 2024 (less than 8 months)

Healthcare experts point to vaccination fatigue as a critical factor. Currently:
Over 100 aged care facilities report less than 10% resident vaccination rates
More than 200 facilities show only 20-30% of residents vaccinated within the past 6-12 months

In 2024 our average customer satisfaction rating was 5 stars. We responded to customer requests and developed 3 more integrations and released a new product feature or enhancement, on average, every 2.5 weeks.

Up to $200 million to improve access to aged care for First Nations, rural and remote communities available via The Aged Care Capital Assistance Program.

Like many elderly people, my aging mother will not entertain the idea of leaving her community, but options are limited in a rural town. I want her to be where she is happiest but accessing services in a rural area is not for the faint hearted.

I am forwarding this grant opportunity to her local residential aged care provider.

Born in the 1960's? Here is some good news! Research indicates that cognitive differences between the older and younger generation are tapering off over time, as the benefits of a similar 'modern' childhood across the generations appear to take effect. The younger generation also appear to have hit a ceiling and are no longer improving as much as previous cohorts. It seems we may all be starting to work from the same page as we think about ageing and aged care in future...
