Transparency no longer depends on someone's honesty. Claude generated/edited text now carries an invisible mark that can survive copying & pasting, and even light editing.
This means that instead of being innocent until proven guilty, AI now carries the evidence against itself.
Many of us use it daily, and many of us pretend we don't.

So here is our disclaimer about this post (written by a human).
Used AI to find information, and verify it, as well as summarise it in smaller chunks.
Used AI to edit existing photo (just some colour changes and a bit of blur).
The rest is all put together in the old-fashioned way by a human, including typing these words. We believe in being helped by AI, and allowing ourselves a manual process to help with thinking and creative tasks. AI is great, but it is not magic.

I am seeing this in many of our clients operations and in our own business. AI is exciting, but all of a sudden, you are trying to implement it on the fly, across multiple activities. You try this and that, and it kind of works, but when it doesn't you go do it manually yourself.

Your small team is having their own AI tools, your data and IP is leaking and you don't even know about it. You know you should use it, so you keep investing resources in it, but then have to deal with the management of this parallel universe that to many still looks like smoke and mirrors.

Another magical prompt is not going to save you.

When you run a small team, there is a form of art to it.
AI is another team member. That is all.

Google launched an AI tool that could edit its own satellite imagery. Within a day, people had faked a nuclear plant, a refugee crossing, and a flood that never happened. Google pulled the tool before most people even knew it existed.

That's the speed we're working with now. A convincing fake takes one sentence. Checking whether something is real still takes real time and real expertise, and right now that burden sits with whoever's looking, not whoever made it.

Google is the headline here. The pattern underneath is the actual problem: generation is moving faster than governance, at every level, from a single company's content policy to international standards for provenance.

We are seeing a lot of this.
Someone starts using an AI tool to save time on a Tuesday. Six months later nobody remembers which tool, what data it touches, or who's responsible if it gets something wrong. That's not a hypothetical, that's what we are seeing with a lot of small businesses right now.
The fix isn't complicated or expensive.
One page.
List every AI tool in use.
Note what customer or staff data it touches.
Name one person accountable for each.
Done.
Government is tightening disclosure rules this year. The businesses caught out won't be the ones using AI, it'll be the ones who never wrote down what they were using it for.
The AI conversation is noisy and full of "magic prompts".
Stick around for what is practical for small to medium organisations. We do the work.
