Reconciliation Rocks - The 250 year old story all Australians should know...

The initial reconciliation between First-Australians and Europeans.

This old lost tale is still an insight into the importance of patience, understanding and communication. It is worth reading and sharing...... It is amazing that the legacy of Reconciliation Rocks is not well known, given Captain Cook's record. It shows how history is twisted when his final reflection was edited out of his published journal; "in reality they are far more happier than we Europeans".

Unfortunately, the festival to celebrate the first reconciliation has been postponed to 2021. In the meantime, let's make the story better known. We have to give ScoMo some credit here, he has supported this.

In July 1935, a huge cyclone was bearing down on the Queensland Coast. Heading straight into the storm and huge seas were two ships leaving Sydney, only one would make back to port.

In the raging storm, the Oonah lost the second ship she was towing. With a skeleton crew of eight men aboard, this Gallipoli Veteran drifted off and disappeared... now lying in the pristine waters on the sandy beach at Fraser Island.

150 years ago this week, one of the largest and fastest ships to sail from the UK to Australia was wrecked just north of Bendalong during a huge storm. Survivors were left clinging to the remains of a ship surrounded by treacherous oceans, miles of coastal waterways walled by endless forest. Isolated and fighting for survival.

One-third of the crew would not survive.

As we approach a very different ANZAC Day tomorrow, we wanted to share our online tribute to the fallen Diggers.

https://www.exploria.me/fallen-anzacs-memorial-at-north-curl-curl/

On the North Curl Curl Curl headland lies a monument to WW1 diggers who spent the summer of 1914 there before heading off to war. Never to return.

Their sacrifice, memorialised on the clifftop, was recently vandalised. The community is coming together to repair the moment and in our contribution, want to share the stories behind those names inscribed into the stone.

Researching and sharing their stories online is a great way to help commemorate the ANZACs this year, we can help support sharing those stories.

Next time you're at Beach, take a moment to look at the whole beach from the park or from up on Tamarama Marine Drive.

As the small beach unfolds before the ocean with beautiful golden sand and pristine water... just imaging the scene from around 1907 for the next 5 years or so.

Not a deserted beach but home to the largest amusement park in the southern hemisphere and Australia's first roller coaster! All built on top the of the Royal Aquarium grounds after it burnt to the ground a decade earlier.

It's amazing what you can find in every corner of our cities and towns.

is an oasis in the city for weekend fun on foot or bikes or cars.

This amazing parkland is full of history, borne from a combination of Lachlan's Swamp and what was at the time sand dunes and rocks, its quite incredible to imagine the transformation. The transformation made possible by Busby's Bore which not only fed the development of the gardens but was the first major tunnel built in supplying Sydney's 20,000 population with up to 1.5m litres of water per day.

The is all around Busby's pond and the park and it well worth a visit. To find out more about the stories in and around the park use the free app, there is so much to discover.
