Pytafresh is the seventh logo project I’ve worked on for client Martin Stepien since 2019, across Australia and Europe, with multiple logo families, variations and sub-brands along the way.
For Pytafresh, Martin specifically asked for an olive to be incorporated into the identity. The brief was to create something fresh, contemporary and unmistakably Mediterranean. The final custom-lettered direction evolved into a complete logo suite, including landscape and stacked formats, the standalone pf mark, pattern, colour palette and sub-brand variations.
I also take logo concepts beyond the page, rendering them across signage, shop fit-outs, packaging, uniforms, merchandise, vehicle wraps and other applications so clients can properly visualise how each direction could work in the real world. I’ve included a couple of the alternative concepts here too.
Martin wrote this after our first four projects together:
“I have been working with Julie on a number of projects over the past few years and all have been AMAZING! Julie has a lot of experience and passion in what she does and will definitely exceed your expectations. Highly recommend!”
We’re now at number seven.

This one never made it past concept stage - but I’ve always had a soft spot for it.
I worked with Vanessa Wood from the very beginning, developing the business positioning, name and visual identity. Wood Developments • Interiors was one of the early brand directions, with this logo concept playing quite literally with the name WOOD.
The overlapping letterforms were developed into a small emblem inspired by a traditional door knocker and keyhole - a nod to property, architecture, craftsmanship and the kind of old-school classic detailing that has always suited Vanessa’s design aesthetic.
Vanessa liked the concept, but it ultimately didn’t reflect where the business was heading. Her focus was shifting away from property development and much more firmly into interior design, so the brand evolved with her - eventually becoming Vanessa Wood Interiors.
And that’s part of good brand development. A concept can be clever, beautifully resolved and completely appropriate to the original brief, yet still not be the right answer for where the business is going.
So this became one of the rejects.
Still love it though. Some ideas deserve a little outing from the archives.

When Brisbane child psychologist Dr Samantha Ward approached me to create the identity for Stepping Stones for Life, her brief included one very specific visual idea - pebbles forming the shape of a butterfly.
The result became a colourful, organic butterfly made entirely from individual stepping stones - a visual representation of growth, change, progress and the many small steps that shape our lives.
Stepping Stones for Life supports children and adolescents through to adulthood, so it was important that the identity didn’t feel overly childlike. The butterfly brings optimism and transformation, while the irregular pebble forms keep it human, individual and grounded.
And there’s a lovely connection behind this project too. Samantha came to me through her sister Melinda Ward of Linear 56 Design, another Stubborn Creative client.

Brand identity development for De L’Isle Equestrian.

This was a logo design project for a showjumper and her equestrian centre. Built around a rich colour palette with silver and gold detailing to complement the prestige heritage feel of the name itself. The direction needed to feel classic, refined and confident without becoming overly ornate.

Great afternoon at Topgolf with my fab client Ray Dib and the Switch Finance crew. So good meeting the new team members as this brilliant business keeps growing.

Also, aided by a couple of Southern Comforts on the rocks, it turns out I don’t completely suck at golf
🥃 ⛳️😜

Cheers Ray!
