Mouse loved tiny treats, and most of all to nibble little pieces of cheese drizzled with honey. She loved the warmth of fresh bread, and was often found curled in a golden sunbeam, her whiskers twitching in quiet contentment.

As the afternoon light wandered gently across the room, she would watch the dust motes drifting through the air. She imagined them to be tiny sparks of magic. And when at last the first evening stars began to twinkle, with the children tucked safely into their beds, Mouse would nestle herself beneath Teddy’s warm arm and fall into the sweetest sleep.

I think that part of motherhood is wanting to hold onto every season, even while knowing it cannot stay 🥹

For soft curls peeking from bonnets, chubby cheeks in the morning light and little hands still reaching for yours.
