Thinking about getting into gold prospecting? Don't fall for the online hype! Here are two massive myths, busted:
Myth 1: You MUST find gold every time you go out!
This expectation, often popularized by TV shows setting high targets (like 10oz or 100oz), is misleading and detracts from the hobby.
Fact: If you rely on gold finds for income, you are better off getting a different job, as you have more chance of winning a sizeable chunk of money in Lotto than making a significant amount through prospecting.
We come out to the bush of WA primarily to enjoy the quiet time, research local history left behind 100 to 130 years ago, and visit unique places that are completely off the beaten track.
Finding gold is fantastic, but the experience is the excuse for being out there. It's just like fishing: you enjoy every trip, even if you don't catch anything.
Myth 2: Any old metal detector is good enough!
While some people online suggest any detector will do, this is incorrect. Fact: To successfully find gold, you must have a proper metal detector that can punch through the mineralised soil. If you use inadequate equipment, you are just wasting your time and won't even find pieces of tin or nails.
It is critical to get the right tools for the job. Trying to use the wrong detector is like attempting to catch a Marlin with a fly rod, it simply won't work.
