Forget the hype - this Perth South American restaurant is the real deal. 🌶️🇵🇪
We recently revisited UMA Perth at the Pan Pacific Perth to try their new menu inspired by WA’s Noongar six-season calendar, and once again, we were blown away. Head Chef Javiera Gómez and Executive Chef Xerxes Bodhanwala have built something that genuinely feels like Perth, told through a Peruvian lens. The flavours are incredible, and the plating of every dish is exquisite.
What surprised us most this time, though, was seeing just how busy the restaurant was on a Tuesday night. So clearly, we’re not the only ones who think UMA is something special!
And the awards back it up - UMA recently took home three accolades at the 2026 Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence. 👏
We started with their incredible Pan de Yema (you have to try it!) and a new Ceviche Koto with tuna and sole leche de tigre, followed by street food dishes of Beef Anticuchos and confit duck Empanadas.
For mains, the Pollo Amarillo had a delicious citrusy, almost laksa-like sauce, while the dry-aged O’Connor Black Angus Solomillo was beautifully cooked and came with a selection of 3 house-made sauces. We added sides of Solterito - a salad with stracciatella, quinoa and seasonal vegetables, and crispy Yucas with aji sesame dressing.
And don’t overlook the drinks list! There’s a great selection of Argentinian, Chilean and WA wines, as well as a huge range of Pisco cocktails. We went with the ever-popular Pisco Sour - the perfect match for those bold South American flavours.
Dessert was another highlight. New to the menu is Cupula - a mandarin and rocoto (chilli native to the Andes) chocolate mousse with a bit of a kick. And we reckon their Alfajores are some of the best in Perth!
UMA’s contemporary new menu is all about bringing together South America’s rich food heritage with exceptional Western Australian produce - and we reckon they’re absolutely nailing it. Book ahead, especially if a Tuesday is this busy 👀
