আমাকে অনেকেই মাঝে মাঝে ভীষণ বিস্ময়ে জিজ্ঞেস করে, 'তোমাদের আলাদা ভাষা আছে?' 'মারমা, চাকমা, ত্রিপুরা, ম্রো, খিয়াং, পাংখুয়া, তঞ্চঙ্গ্যা সবার ভাষা আলাদা আলাদা?'
অনেকেই এখনও জানেন না, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম তথা সমতলে বসবাসকারী প্রত্যেক আদিবাসী জনগোষ্ঠীর নিজস্ব কৃষ্টি- সংস্কৃতি, ঐতিহ্য, পোশাক আর ইতিহাসের সাথে তাদের প্রত্যেকের রয়েছে আলাদা আলাদা ভাষা, যা তাদের মাতৃভাষা। অনেকের রয়েছে নিজেদের মাতৃভাষার লেখ্যরূপ ও। আবার অনেকই ইতিমধ্যে হারিয়ে ফেলেছে মাতৃভাষার লেখ্যরূপ।
প্রত্যেকের মাতৃভাষায় কত গান, কত পালা, কত গেংখুলি, কত উবোগীত, কত ওলিগান, কত পচ্ছন্, কত কি রচিত হয়ে সমৃদ্ধ হয়ে আসছে যুগ থেকে যুগ। প্রজন্ম থেকে প্রজন্ম মায়ের মুখ থেকে শুনে আয়ত্ত করে তাদের অতি আপন মাতৃভাষাকে।
তবে, পাহাড়ে বসবাসরত আদিবাসী জনগোষ্ঠীর সন্তানদের মাতৃভাষা শেখার শুরুটা হয় ভিন্নভাবেই। হয়তো কোনো মায়ের উঁচু পাহাড় বেয়ে পানি তোলার সময়, হয়তোবা জুম চাষের কোনো মৌসুমে কিংবা কোনো ওলিগানের সুরে সুরে।
প্রকৃতির সাথে ঘনিষ্ঠতর হয়ে কিভাবে বিশুদ্ধ ভাবে বাঁচা যায়, আদিবাসী সন্তানেরা মায়ের কাছ থেকেই শিখে। পাহাড়ি পাখি, পাতা, বাতাস আর ঝর্ণার সুরে মায়ের যে ডাক মিশে যায় সুনিবিড় আবেগে সে মধুর মত মিষ্টি আমাদের মাতৃভাষা।
এ মাতৃভাষা টিকে আছে মানে, আমাদের মা টিকে আছে, আমাদের মা টিকে আছে মানে মাতৃভাষা টিকে আছে।
১৯৫২ সালের ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারী- তে বাংলা ভাষার মান রক্ষার দাবিতে যে মায়ের শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তানেরা নিজের রক্তে রাঙিয়েছিলো রাজপথ, সে সন্তানদের প্রাণের দাবি ছিল, নিজের মাতৃভাষাকে রক্ষা করা, নিজের মাতৃভাষাকে টিকিয়ে রাখা।
নিজের মাতৃভাষাকে সম্মান করা, পাশাপাশি অন্যের মাতৃভাষাকেও সম্মান করা।
এটাই একুশের চেতনা, এটাই হোক প্রজন্মের প্রেরণা।
