The emergency shutdown continues into day 2. In the aftermath of the tornados that hit Ottawa Friday night, power is still out across a large portion of the city. We hope to be back up and running today once the grid is stabilized.

Tis the season again... Tax Season!
Just a reminder, you're going to receive numerous SPAM messages about how you should spend your tax refund. Many of those will be fake, and contain infected attachments or links. Always remember, your delete button is far more important than your "curiosity" button.

So what should you do with a tax refund? First, call it what it really is... A tax over-payment. Second, ignore the millions of TV and Radio ads you'll be hearing over the next couple of months, and put the money on your mortgage. You're welcome. :-)

How to spot fake news and "click bait"...

1 - Any headline that asks a question is fake, purely speculation, and is designed to put a suggestion in your head without actually telling you anything.

Example... "Could aliens be running our planet?" or "Could the ocean be drying up?"

2 - Any headline that contains the word "this" is fake, and designed to bait you into clicking a dangerous or spammy link.

Example... "This drink can cure nail fungus" or "This common product could kill you."

Not kidding, these are classic examples of fake or spammy links pretending to be "news".

A REAL news headline actually tells you something...

Example... "Gas prices going up" or "Accident closes highway".

Just something to keep in mind... Advertisers use these hooks to play on our curiosity. When they have to resort to these trick tactics, it's a guarantee the product they're pushing is something no one wants, and would never purchase unless they're duped into it.
