You're probably paying for cloud services you stopped using months ago. ☁️

As businesses pile on more SaaS apps, storage, and AI workloads, cloud bills are quietly ballooning. In fact, managing cloud spend is now the single biggest headache for the people who control these budgets, and most small businesses are either overpaying or sitting on misconfigured setups they don't even know about.

Where the money tends to leak:

✅ Duplicate or forgotten subscriptions nobody owns anymore

✅ Oversized plans and storage tiers you've long outgrown

✅ Misconfigured services that cost more and open security gaps

Left unchecked, this sprawl doesn't just drain your budget; it creates blind spots that attackers love to exploit. A little visibility goes a long way.

Audit your cloud and SaaS subscriptions this quarter and cut what you're not actively using.

Your defenses are only as strong as the weakest vendor you trust. 🔗

Supply chain attacks have quadrupled over the past five years. Attackers don't break through your front door - they compromise a software vendor, insert malicious code into a legitimate update, and let you install it yourself. By the time anyone notices, the damage is done.

Third-party vendor risk means:

✅ A single compromised update can spread malware to hundreds of businesses at once

✅ Restoring from backup doesn't undo data that's already been stolen and sold

✅ Your compliance status can be invalidated by a breach you didn't cause

You can have enterprise-grade security internally and still get hit through a vendor with weaker controls.

By 2026, more than 90% of organizations will face an IT skills shortage, a gap projected to cost $5.5 trillion globally. For a small business, that means the talent you need to stay secure and modern is nearly impossible to hire in-house.

That's why 88% of small and midsize businesses now lean on a managed service provider:

✅ Outsourced IT typically cuts technology costs 20–30%.

✅ Predictable monthly pricing replaces surprise emergency bills.

✅ You get enterprise-grade security and cloud expertise without an enterprise payroll.

Cybersecurity is now the fastest-growing aspect of managed services, growing 18% a year - because the threats are outpacing what any solo internal person can handle alone. Going at it alone in 2026 isn't thrifty; it's a gamble.

If you haven’t yet, it’s a good time to audit where your internal team is stretched thin, and find an outsourced partner before a gap creates major challenges.

The best time to have IT support is before you desperately need it.

Slow computers cost more than you think. A few extra minutes of loading, freezing, and rebooting per person adds up to days of lost productivity a year, and your team feels it long before it ever shows up on a balance sheet.

Aging tech quietly drains your business by:

✅ Burning staff time on waiting, restarting, and workarounds

✅ Pushing frustrated employees toward unapproved tools and shortcuts

✅ Failing at the worst possible moment, usually mid-deadline

The cost isn't the new equipment. It's the productivity you're already losing every single day. Track how often your team is fighting their tools, then plan replacements before the failures pile up.

You have MFA enabled, which is great! But hackers have figured out a simple trick to bypass it.

It's called an 'MFA fatigue attack.'

Imagine your phone constantly blowing up with authentication requests until someone gets so annoyed, tired, or confused that they just tap 'approve.'

It's simple, but effective. These attacks exploit:

✅ Employees who don't read what they're approving

✅ No limit on how many push requests can be sent

✅ The assumption that MFA alone means you're safe

Several major breaches in the past two years started with a single fatigue-induced approval. MFA is not a finish line. We strongly recommend training your employees to reject unexpected requests and report them immediately.

You may trust your vendors, but have you thought about their cybersecurity?

Many organizations focus on protecting their own systems while overlooking a growing risk: third-party breaches. From payroll and cloud apps to software vendors and IT providers, one compromised partner can create major downstream impact.

A few good questions today can prevent big problems tomorrow:

✔️ How do vendors protect your data?
✔️ Do they use MFA?
✔️ What happens if they experience a breach?

Smart cybersecurity is about understanding your entire ecosystem.

One misconfigured cloud setting can expose everything.

Cloud breaches aren't usually caused by brilliant hackers. They're caused by a single checkbox left unchecked.

SharePoint folders set to "Anyone with the link," Google Drive files shared with entire domains, and Dropbox folders with expired employees still having access are responsible for millions of records exposed every year.

Misconfigurations lead to:

✅ Customer data indexed by search engines within hours

✅ Regulatory fines that dwarf the cost of a proper audit

✅ Breach notifications that destroy client trust overnight

The cloud is not inherently secure because it's meant to be flexible, which means errors travel fast.

Schedule a cloud configuration review. Most problems are one setting away from being fixed.

Security isn't just about keeping attackers out. It’s just as important to avoid leaving the windows open.

They weren’t having any IT issues. Everything worked. Teams, email, and files… all fine. But they were overpaying by $250/month on Microsoft 365 licensing.

We see this a lot. Microsoft licenses get assigned once and never revisited, even as roles and requirements change.

A quick review saved them over $3,000/year with no disruption to their team.

If you haven’t looked at your licensing in a while, there’s a good chance something’s off.

Board transitions. Committee access. Aging AMS platforms.

These are the gaps creating real IT exposure for nonprofit associations - and most organizations don't see them coming.

We've released the Canadian Nonprofit IT Risk Report: 2026 Edition, grounded in 30+ years of working with associations across Canada and the latest data from CIRA's 2025 Cybersecurity Survey.

How many people in your company have more access than they actually need? 👀

It’s a straightforward question, but most businesses don’t have a clear answer.

Over time, employees change roles, permissions stack up, and accounts keep access “just in case.”

That convenience quietly turns into risk. This is where “least privilege” comes in. Give people access to what they need to do their job and nothing more.

If you haven’t reviewed user access in a while, it's probably time to take a look.
