A TALE OF TWO LOUIS!
Two names. Two business parks. One BIG Shop Local connection!

We recently explored Louis Campbell, an early MĂŠtis settler whose name lives on through Campbell Road and its connection to Campbell Business Park.

Now we're turning our attention to Riel Business Park, where Riel Drive honours another significant figure in Métis history — Louis Riel!

But what does all this have to do with SHOP LOCAL?

More than you might think!

St. Albert's investment in industrial park lands was about more than creating space for businesses. It was about building a stronger local economy.

And that's the focus of Wednesday's Shop Local Trivia!

What was one reason St. Albert invested in industrial park lands?

A) To encourage business development and diversify tax revenue

B) To build a new airport

C) To replace the downtown shopping district

Drop your answer in the comments!

Here's the Shop Local connection: When we support independent businesses, more of our spending can circulate locally, supporting jobs, suppliers and other businesses. It's called the local multiplier effect.

And SHOP LOCAL goes well beyond retail!

Think contractors, manufacturers, trades, suppliers and service businesses — many operating in St. Albert's business parks.

Tuesday’s Trivia: Did You Get It Right?

The answer is B — a Pioneer Settler!

Long before Campbell Business Park became one of St. Albert’s busiest commercial hubs, Louis Campbell was part of the community’s early history, establishing himself in St. Albert in 1863.

More than 160 years later, the Campbell name remains connected to an area where local entrepreneurs, independent businesses and service providers help drive St. Albert’s economy.

Different generations. Different opportunities. Same entrepreneurial spirit.

That’s what The Shop Local Movement is all about — discovering the people and businesses helping shape our community today, while appreciating the history that brought us here.

Our Small Business Month series, Beyond the Trail!, continues as we explore the businesses, places and stories that make St. Albert worth discovering.
