Do you know what to do if you think you’re being targeted by an online scam? 🤖💻
Digital scams are getting more complex every day, but taking immediate steps can protect your personal information and finances.
Here is what to do when facing a digital scam:
1️⃣ Stop, think and verify. Don’t let high-pressure tactics panic you into acting fast. Never click links or call numbers provided in suspicious messages, always reach out through a known, official channel instead.
2️⃣ Secure your accounts. Change your passwords immediately if you suspect a breach.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) across your critical accounts to block unauthorized access.
3️⃣ Take immediate action. If you’ve shared payment details or sent money, freeze or lock compromised credit/debit cards right away. Report the incident to your bank, local law enforcement, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
