Introducing.. Nigel! One of our pre pandemic hires, Nigel only had a month in the office before we turned to WFH life, and weâre so glad he stuck it out! Now that weâre back to office a few days of the week, weâve gotten to know him even better and are excited to put him in the spotlight.
How long have you been working for Channel 1?
3.5 years
What is your role?
Web Developer
What does your average day to day look like?
I start the day off by checking my email then completing any small edits and updates that came in. After that I focus on my current projects, while tackling any client requests that may come in for current and ongoing projects.
Whatâs your favourite memory from working at Channel 1?
The Christmas dinners at Morton's Steakhouse. Itâs always great to share a meal and chat with everyone outside of work.
What would you recommend to someone looking to start out in development?
Enrol in a web development bootcamp. As someone who completed one, I highly recommend it! Itâs intense and very stressful at times but gives you all the tools you need to start out as a front end developer with an introduction to back end development.
What did you do before you started at channel 1 and how was the transition between roles?
I was in banking, working my way up from the branch to a head office job. After doing it for 8 years, I realized I didnât feel fulfilled with what I was doing. After talking to friends and family, I did some research and decided to leave my job and enrolled in a web development bootcamp at BrainStation. The program is years worth of material condensed into 12 weeks, so it was a lot to grasp in a very short amount of time. Completely changing careers was a tough decision but I couldnât be happier that I did it.
