It is time for that forever microphone! You have decided to go all in on podcasting. This is one of our favourites and a favourite of almost everyone else out there in the recording world. Let us introduce to you the Shure SM7B and let me tell you, it is smooth. This is a cardioid microphone with features like bass roll off and mid range control. Oh and that proximity effect, ooooooo.
This is an XLR mic that has a really low output so you do need something like a Cloudlifter or a FetHead to bring up the signal before running it into a mic preamp such as the Focusrite Scarlett. There are lots of great preamps out there so talk to your local music shop and they will set you up.

So it is time to upgrade that microphone and you are looking for something a little better than that entry level mic. tribe74 has your back; let us introduce you to the Rode NT1-A!

The NT1-A is a large diaphragm side address condenser mic, so make sure you are talking into the side with the large gold dot on it. This mic helps minimize noise caused by room ambiance which is a blessing. Something to consider is this is no longer a USB mic and you will be playing with the big boys using a XLR cable which you will need a mic preamp to run with 48V phantom power such as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo or the Audient ID4 which will then plug into your computer.

A good eye for detail and framing, while finding the right composition isn't an exact science, but having the right equipment certainly helps. The great thing is you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to start, but learning how to use the tools available is key!
