For 55 years, my uncle Tony has dedicated his life to the lobster fishery. Through long days, rough seas, countless seasons, and every challenge the ocean could throw at him, he has built a legacy defined by hard work, determination, and an unwavering love for life on the water.
Over those 55 years, he has proudly owned six different lobster boats. While each new vessel brought hope for a fresh start, every one seemed to arrive with its own mechanical troubles and obstacles. But true to his character, he never let those setbacks define him. Instead, he faced every challenge head-on, repaired what needed fixing, and kept doing what he has always done best—providing for his family and making a living from the sea.
His newest boat carries a name that perfectly captures his remarkable career: What a Journey. It represents far more than a boat—it symbolizes 55 years of perseverance, resilience, sacrifice, and unforgettable memories as a skipper. It is a fitting tribute to a lifetime spent on the water and everything that has come with it.
It was an incredible honour for me to install the graphics on What a Journey. Knowing the story behind the name made the project even more meaningful, and I was proud to play a small part in celebrating such an extraordinary milestone.
Of course, none of this journey would have been possible without his wife, Bernadine. For 26 of those years, she stood beside him—not only as his partner in life but also as his partner on the water. Together they faced early mornings, rough weather, long seasons, and the many highs and lows of the fishing industry. Her dedication, strength, and unwavering support have been just as much a part of this journey as his own.
Fifty-five years as a skipper is more than an accomplishment—it is a legacy. It is a story of resilience, family, hard work, and a lifelong passion for the sea. Congratulations on an incredible career, and here’s to the unforgettable journey that brought you here!
