Today marks the 155th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 1, a sacred and living agreement entered into by our ancestors with future generations in mind.

The seven First Nations of Treaty 1, Brokenhead, Long Plain, Peguis, Roseau River, Sagkeeng, Sandy Bay, and Swan Lake, are the original caretakers and stewards of this land and continue to uphold the spirit and intent of this sacred agreement.

Everyone who lives on Treaty 1 Territory is part of this sacred relationship, and we all share a responsibility to one another. Today, we reflect on the strength and vision of the ancestors who entered into Treaty 1. May we continue working together to uphold its promises and move forward in meaningful Reconciliation.
