Back from a month in Nairobi where I took part in one panel discussion on colour and gave two talks, one at Nairobi design week and one at the University of Nairobi amongst meeting local artists, designers and making new works. A particular highlight was meeting with the architecture students of the University of Nairobi. My next stops will take me to Venice, Podgorica, Plymouth, New Haven and more to be announced soon. After the Rain’ drawing series of modular artworks, installation of 96 of the drawings from the current series which includes 104 so far.

A fellow artist motivated me to continue the series and make at least double so here goes ;)

The series spans over 6 meters and for this exhibition at Le Bel Ordinaire I imagined an installation which includes a modular series of painted steel slats.

This is my largest body of works on paper so far. I’ve had to rest my arm intermittently as making the series has given me a nice tendinitis 😅 it’s both a physical and visceral work. After the rain suggests what can emerge after a time of darkness.

Sara Boris je umjetnica i dizajnerka. Njena praksa obuhvata skulpturu, crtanje, grafiku, kolaž, slikarstvo, grafički dizajn i oblikovanje knjiga. Kroz svoj rad, istražuje različite teme i forme, od simbola do klimatskih promjena i jezika. Njeni projekti često proističu iz ličnih iskustava ili su povezani sa specifičnim kontekstima. Od autorske tipografije do pravljenja namještaja, njena praksa je hibridna i raznovrsna. Njeni radovi su izlagani u Muzeju dizajna u Londonu i dio su zbirke muzeja Stedelijk u Amsterdamu, New York Centre for Book Arts, FRAC Normandie, MAK Beč, artothèque Bel Ordinaire, Nacionalne biblioteke Francuske, kao i Fondacije Jan Michalski u Švajcarskoj. Prije nego što se u potpunosti posvetila umjetničkoj praksi, radila je kao grafička dizajnerka i art direktorka za vodeće kulturne i umjetničke institucije u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, uključujući Barbican, Institute of Contemporary Arts i Phaidon.

Sarah Boris is an artist and designer with a practice spanning across sculpture, drawing, printmaking, collage, painting, graphic design and book making. Her work explores various topics and forms, from symbols to climate change and language. Her projects often emerge from lived experiences or are connected to specific contexts. From designing custom typography to building furniture, her practice is hybrid and diverse. Her work has been exhibited at the Design Museum in London and is part of collections at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the New York Centre for Book Arts, FRAC Normandie, MAK Vienna, artothèque Bel Ordinaire, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the Jan Michalski Foundation in Switzerland. Prior to focusing on her art practice Sarah Boris was a graphic designer and art director for leading cultural and art institutions in the UK including Barbican, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Phaidon.

Wishes, 2026

Wishes is a new artwork currently featured in my exhibition ‘Resolutions’ at Stolen books gallery in Lisbon, it is presented alongside another artwork titled ‘Wisdom’. These two works act as charms alongside the resolutions presented in the exhibition.

Wishbones have multiple significances in different cultures stemming from ancient traditions but the one I grew up to be familiar with was that it could enable your wishes to come true. When given to a couple it serves as a talisman for bringing luck and harmony to a relationship.

Happy to share news of my next solo exhibition opening on 9 January in Lisbon, Portugal. Please join us for the opening if you are in town at Stolen Books Gallery.

I will be presenting a series of artworks which have in common the theme of 'Resolutions' alongside a new book which gathers contributions from people all around the world on their resolutions for the year to come. The book includes over 700 resolutions.
