🛡️ Staying Safe from Viruses & Malware 🛡️

🔄 Keep Your Devices Updated – updates fix security holes. If your using windows, windows defender is sufficient to keep your protected as long as you follow the rest of these tips. Adding multiple anti virus softwares is ill advised and can actually end up causing more problems.

📥 Download Only from Trusted Sources – avoid sketchy websites or links.

✉️ Don’t Open Suspicious Emails/Attachments – no matter how genuine they seem, always follow up by directly searching for the subject yourself

🔗 Be Careful with Links – hover before clicking to see where it really goes.

🛑 Avoid Pirated Software & Files – these often carry hidden malware.

📡 Use Secure Wi-Fi – public WiFi can seem handy but its impossible to sure exactly what you are connecting to. If you must connect to a public network ( e.g McDonald's free wifi) be careful not to login to any bank or social media aps

🔒 Back Up Important Files – just in case something slips through.

👉 Remember: If something feels odd online, it probably is. Stay cautious!

🚨 How to Spot an Online Scammer 🚨

💬 Rushed or Pushy Messages – they pressure you to act fast.

🤑 Too Good to Be True Deals – big bargains, easy money, or “free” offers.

🔗 Suspicious Links – random links in DMs or comments.

🆔 Strange Profiles – few friends/followers, no real photos, or copied content.

💳 Unusual Payment Requests – gift cards, wire transfers, or crypto only.

❌ Won’t Meet in Person / Video Call – they avoid face-to-face contact.

🤔 Spelling Errors & Odd Phrasing – often a red flag in scam messages.

🛑 Asking for Personal Info – bank details, passwords, or codes should never be shared.

👉 Tip: If something feels off, stop, double-check, and don’t respond. Any genuine person who contacts you looking for any form of information will have absolutely no issue with you calling them back on a number you have looked up yourself (dont use one they provide) or to take the time if you unsure to ask for a 2nd opinion from someone you trust

🔒 Online safety week
This is realistically a huge topic and ill be breaking it down over this week into easy to understand and follow tips for any users

Today we will focus on safety on social media for example Facebook, Instagram etc

💥 Most of these aps have built in privacy and security settings that are fairly easy to check. Ensure your privacy settings are set accordingly. Some sites will share your location on each post or some will share your post to anyone who wants to search for you. Change these to share with only your friends if thats more appropriate for you

💥 Don't add people you dont know directly and if it is someone you know, check through their posts to make sure it seems to be a real person. If they seem to share a lot of random posts with links to strange websites, it's likely this is a fake account with someone using their name and picture

💥 Don't click links from people that you arnt sure of what they are. Go to Google yourself and search for the topic they are referencing. Even if it's a person you know personally, they can't be trusted as accounts do get hacked and taken over

💥 If you do post things publicly and like to share or tag the location, take care and be mindful of who follows your profile. Ideally wait till you are home or away from the place so people dont know your actual current location as this information could be used against you in so many ways

💥 Social media is rife with scams, people trying to steal information and/or money from you. 🛑 always stop and think before entering your details either personal or banking into any site or page linked through social media. Carefully consider if its genuine, no matter the context be it a family member asking for money through a link (call them directly instead and talk to them about it no matter how high the sense of urgency they seem to be portraying in the message) or if you see someone sharing a post looking sponsorship to a "charity", there are a never ending stream of how these bad actors try to steal from you.

💥 Talk to others in your family wether it's someone who may be less experienced who needs more help or someone with more who can help you. The simplest way to break down and prevent these attacks is to always stop, think and ask someone you trust, if you are unsure about any details you are about to enter online. Ask yourself, if a random person in the street asked you for your home address or your bank details how quick would you hand them over? The answer should be never or not with out 100% proof the are who they say they are, if you apply this logic to your online interactions it's the biggest step in staying safe online

💬 If you would like any help in setting up extra steps in staying safe online or any extra advice feel free to message us

💧Water safety tips

💧The most important tip for anyone about water is knowing where to shut your water supply off. If you had a severe leak emerge now in your home, how quickly could you find and turn off your main supply. If the answer isnt 30 seconds or less thats probably an issue. If your a renter, ask your landlord or if you own your home and arnt sure, a professional can help.

💧Preventive maintenance is key. Either check or have someone check over all water and waste pipes once a year. This means all sinks and appliances that use water etc

💧 Ensure any outdoor water pipes such as garden taps etc, and the pipes running to them are well insulated

💧 Don't put anything other than 1s 2s and toilet paper down the toilet. This includes baby wipes even the ones that say flushable, they may well flush down the toilet, however they dont break down in water and can cause a severe blockage

Thinking of buying a new or new to you pc? Here's some advice to help you on your way

👶 Baby steps first, what do you need the pc for? Is it going to be a modern gaming behemoth? A specific work focused machine or just something to browse the Internet and complete some light word processing

💰 Have a budget in mind for how much you would like to spend, also dont forget to factor in all the extras, such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers or headphones

🛒 Shop around and get different prices for similar machines from different places. This can be the part of the process where issues arise for most as it can be hard distinguishing pc's apart when you arnt familiar with the branding and naming structures used.

📦 if you are buying a prebuild pc, ready to plug in, be especially careful. Online marketplaces such as amazon do sell what looks like affordable good looking pcs, but often times they are actually fitted with seriously old hardware as much as 10-15 years old that just wont keep up with any modern work or gaming load. They can also be fitted with parts that have not passed the proper safety checks, this is especially true for the power supply, which if it is off poor quality, is a severe fire hazard

🪛Sites such as pcpartpicker can be useful to help decide on parts that suit your budget and needs, it breaks things down in a simple format and even helps by showing part compatibility and compares prices between different legitimate retailers
The cultists network is another invaluable site which has safety rating for power supplies to help keep your build safe as certain parts just arnt worth skimping on

💬 if you would like any free advice, we're here to help, whether your buying a new or used system and just want a 2nd opinion. Need help upgrading your current system? Or any other pc related questions just send us a message

Safety Sundays

🚨Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

When do you last check yours? Try and add these checks to your regular routines. Do a big clean on a Friday evening? quickly run round and hit the buttons to test them, burning sausages in the grill now and again isnt a regular test. It is recommended to test them at least once a month

Regulations state there should be a smoke alarm on every floor and carbon monoxcide anywhere there's an open flame, so fireplaces in living room or gas hobs etc

If your a Tennant, landlords are also obligated to provide and fit them for you

🧯Fire extinguishers
Consider buying a small one or 2, some arnt much bigger than a 2liter bottle of your fizzy drink of choice so they are easily stored. Keep them in an accessible location and check the dates on them once a year if you already have any. Fire blankets are also compact and a handy thing to have near any cooking surfaces

🚪Have an escape plan
Were all prone to loosing our keys and the frustrations involved but it's important to have an easy way out, in the event of a fire. Consider putting up a hook or have a jar specifically to put them in so you always know where they are. Talk to your family or whoever you live with and make a clear simple escape plan if the worst was to happen

💊 Prevention is better than cure
Don't leave anything cooking unattended
Same with candles, always blow them out before you leave the room
Don't overload plugs and socket extensions
Unplug things when your done with them

💬 Send us a message if you need help with any of these tips, be it getting a fire alarm screwed into place or adjusting that sticky door lock that could be a major problem in an emergancy

CLICK SMART TIPS

Is your PC running slowly, unstable or taking a long time to get started, try these basic steps to hopefully help improve it's performance.

💥Power off then back on again,
We have all heard the jokes but it can actually help solve minor issues to power down your system properly, especially with laptops where we have a habit of closing the lid down before the device has fully shutdown

💥Keep up to date with updates
Don't ignore that little yellow circle in the corner of your desktop, now more than ever pcs need to be kept up to date, it improves stability and can help keep your PC safe from viruses

💥 Keep your PC physically clean
You clean every other part of your home, so why not include your PC in this routine. Keep it in a well ventilated area as free from dust as possible. This is especially true for pet owners as the pc can accumulate alot more dust and hairs than you imagine

💥Close those tabs
Too many tabs on chrome or edge etc severely impacts your PC. Consider adding sites you regularly visit to the bookmarks instead of leaving them open at all times

💥Check your storage levels
If your PC is too full of data and programs this will also cause large amounts of slow down. Consider deleting unnecessary data and programs or adding more storage. These can be as simple as an external hard drive plugged into a usb port or increasing the internal storage capability of the pc by someone with the correct skills
