If you're tired of draping wet jumpers over every chair in the house, a heat pump tumble dryer might be the answer. They cost a fraction of an old vented model to run, and they're gentle enough for the good stuff.

That musty smell isn't the clothes — it's the machine.
Once a month: empty drum, add a washing machine cleaner tablet or a cup of white vinegar, run the hottest cycle available. This clears detergent residue and bacteria from the seal and drum.
Also wipe the rubber door seal after every wash. Takes ten seconds. Smells a lot better by Thursday.
