🌾 Mid-season ryegrass in our clients winter wheat - Here’s how we found it and provided prescription maps. Result? Only spray what needs treating.
Ryegrass is a zero-tolerance problem on arable farms. One plant sets tens of thousands of seeds, and resistance makes whole-field spraying a decision you don’t want to keep repeating. But without knowing exactly where the infestation is, blanket treatment is often the only option.
This Hampshire winter wheat farm wanted a map precise enough to drive a sprayer prescription — so that’s what we built.
🔍 What the survey found:
• Ryegrass at ~4.5% of the field area — scattered, not zoned
• Prescription spray area: just 0.92ha out of 4.70ha surveyed
• Individual nozzle control at 50 cm = 61% herbicide saving
📦 And because the multispectral data is already captured, the same flight also delivers NDVI and NDRE vigour maps — meaning one flight can produce both a precision herbicide prescription and a variable rate nitrogen map.
The prescription shapefile is delivered ready for import into standard precision ag platforms, including ISOXML for direct ISOBUS terminal upload.
