New Ofcom rules are pushing mobile providers and messaging services to do more to block and disrupt scam texts before they reach users — and it's a welcome step.

But regulation alone won't stop every message getting through. Scam texts are getting more convincing, often using urgency, fake payment warnings or account alerts to get people to act before they think.

For SMEs, this matters more than it used to. Mobile phones are now tied into almost everything a business relies on — Microsoft 365 sign-ins, banking and payment approvals, password resets and business email access. One convincing text can be the way in.

Better rules help at the network level, but staff awareness is what actually stops the click. It's the same principle behind our advice to clients: don't rush, verify anything that looks off, and report it straight away so it can be dealt with before it becomes a bigger problem.

If a PC still works, it must still be fine… right?
Not always.

From 15 August 2026, older Windows 10 machines (21H2 and earlier) will stop getting OneDrive sync app feature updates, bug fixes and security updates.

It's part of a bigger pattern too — Windows 10 itself reached the end of mainstream support back in October 2025, and unless a device is enrolled in Microsoft's Extended Security Update program, it's no longer receiving the security patches it needs. The OneDrive change is just the latest reminder that the clock is ticking on anything still running Windows 10.

It’s a good time to ask:
✔ Is it supported?
✔ Is it secure?
✔ Is it up to date?

Don’t forget the older PCs tucked away in reception, accounts, the warehouse or used as spares — they’re often the ones that get missed.

It only takes one rushed click to put a business account, payment process or Microsoft 365 login at risk.

⚠️ The warning signs are often there:

Urgent or threatening language
Unexpected links or payment requests
Messages from unknown numbers
Requests for codes, passwords or sensitive information

📳 Mobile phones are part of your business security — especially when a lost or unlocked phone could expose email, banking apps or Microsoft 365 access.
