Dear Rebel

I pitched a TV show! Can you believe it?

Why?

Because every woman I have ever met is wiser than me in some way. And I discovered this when I became a better listener.

Every woman's story is an anthology of stories. The hard ones, the meh ones and the joyful ones.

I want those stories from women in my community to reach you so that you are inspired, so you feel connected and you know that you belong JUST AS YOU ARE.

Wisdom shared has an incredible multiplier effect. Period.

Oh yes, the rebel mentioned above is me. The woman who struggled with imposter syndrome for far too long.

You have arrived at the age when you are awake. You have awareness of you. This can happen around 40 or in your 50s, 60s and beyond.

Sidebar: I personally don't think it happens only once. Consciousness expands if you encourage it. At any age!

What is calling you?

Your soul knows you better that yourself.

Are you psychotherapeutic? Examining your soul? Reflecting and questioning.
You might believe you are stuck. You might feel frustrated or even angry.

You are a grown up now and accountable for everything that spills out of you into the world. Intention, vocation - these comprise your sustaining power, not inflating but humbling.

I understood my vocation more than 15 years ago and yet I did not act on it. I missed the memo as a young person, so for many decades I doubted that I had permission to have my own life.

In fact I may have been born with a mission, a vocation. I had a role to fulfill, but the first time I found it I was too young, too fragile and flooded with guilt. And yet because of the role, I eventually accepted and honour my mission.

Every woman should step into the depth of her stories with the support of a guide and loving sisterhood. grew out of my expanding consciousness. I was born with a mission!

When I host circles I realize that many women have narrowed the way they describe feelings down so much as not be able to accurately talk about the visceral energy.

Of course it is okay to use the F word. I'm not discouraging you.

I'm saying that social media and film has a pretty standardized list (I think).

After 30 years of coaching, I have clear evidence that we women possess immense wisdom in our stories. Yet, when we work 1:1 with a coach or therapist, mentor or even robust 'self-help' practices none of our experiential learning is shared or passed on widely. Indigenous and ancient cultures were so good at the ritual of women talking. I knew I needed a different method for groups so I used my knowledge and expertise to design The Hidden Gems™ Method.

This method is designed to empower women to choose how they engage and what they declare about themselves. It is also designed to be deeply mindful, avoiding the trend of looking for problems to fix or opportunities to give advice. There is a different time and place for that.

Storytelling and story listening are the 'currency' of this approach. Prompt cards, all designed from evidence-based psychological frameworks, invite stories or pose questions. I also designed affirmations into the method, and these are another gift that women take away.

In addition to being a method for group coaching and personal development, I will also train practitioners on how to use the prompts in very large groups and intimate 1:1 sessions.

Life is a series of chapters. Doors opening. Doors ajar. And sometimes doors closing.

I'm feeling immense pressure at the moment because in 3 short weeks from now the first cohort of women who will use The Hidden Gems™ Method in their counselling, therapy and coaching will get trained by me.

It is so exciting to see the response to the approach I designed, primarily for group work. In my dreams there is a farmhouse - it is comfortable and everyone is relaxed. We learn together in the big 'family' room. In breaks, there is hilarity in the kitchen and the occasional tears sitting on the shaded porch. We are making deep connections and the women tell me they want to come back in every season. I wake up as I am mailing invitation to the next gathering. This door will be open.

If I am honest it is slightly terrifying too, because I work in a values aligned way and I have been getting so much unsolicited (and I believe well meaning) advice about E V E R Y T H I N G. Yet after six decades and many scars I know how to be me, how to do it my way.

Let's get to it!

Facts light up the brain's data centre.

Stories light up other areas of the brain. Storytelling invites story listening-you feel like you are in the story. You feel connection, you discover wisdom, you belong and also remain wholly you.

It took me years to work out how to design for the optimal experience for women to reconnect with self and others. I poured my education, life experience, design thinking and compassion into my design. And it works! Every. Single. Time.

Zero advice. Zero problem fixing. Zero comparison or competition.

I love my work and I love every woman who has graced a circle-you bring your stories of grief, loss, divorce, relocation and migration, mental illness, physical illness, heartache, career and entrepreneurship experiences, sacrifices, creativity, love, relationships, family, parenting, travelling, physical healing, mental healing, inner healing, discovering joy, and so much more.

Every single woman who enters a circle finds herself in the middle of life, sometimes at midlife chronologically, and each one want to expand her voyage to wholeness as she comes home to herself.

I love my work. And now I am going to put my method into the hands of women doing empowerment, identity and healing work with women. These are the best days of my life.

Some days pose a lot of questions.

What I find really screws me up is the picture in my head of how things are supposed to be. Or more to the point, how far along I should be (can you hear the word successful between the lines).

The impact of all the conditioning is very clear to me - how much I should be charging, what kind of 'event' is the right kind of experience, what kind of funnels, and discount codes and cadence of emails and newsletters and entertaining reels I must have. The list is very long.

And whether you are a tea somalier or a brand making hair products or a purveyor of fine baked goods or a coach you probably have a picture in your head of how things are supposed to be. Make sure that picture is really aligned for you (note to self).

Just go after your best. Understand your best, because you shine when you are whole. Being your best doesn't make you immune to failure; being your best means you get the lesson and grow.
