Hey Gang!

So today I’m going to impart some of the realities of being an Artist (one of the most exploited professions on the planet)

About a year and a half ago a client was referred to me by another client. I trusted the referral because the client referring had been a dream to work with.

This new client gave me their brief and I explained how I work and they said the was all good.

I created a detailed rough sketch and the client approved it enthusiastically after a couple of minor alterations.

I completed the project, two full seven day weeks working from ten in the morning until 2 in the morning (get used to those hours newbies)

I sent the completed design to the client, at this point my money was running low, they replied saying they preferred the sketch and could they use that instead
as the fully rendered illustration was too far from what they had in mind.

I explained politely that I didn’t want unfinished work in the public domain, the client accepted this but decided to back out of the project.

I had explained how I work, regardless of this the client didn’t seem to take notice and put me in a position where the only way to get paid would be to redraw the entire project.

As the client had showed on numerous occasions and multiple unnecessary e-mails they were not listening to anything I had to say so I politely had to leave the project.

So this meant I had worked hard for two weeks only to be left with a finished piece of art and no payment.

I had to borrow money off my Ma to make rent that month. Thank you Ma TSM ❤️

So this week I deleted the clients image from the cover and replaced them with two Flamingrebs

There are three colour variants and they are up for grabs as album art if anyone would like to claim them

If not I think I’ll do a short run of prints.

The lesson here is, lock your clients in with a deposit as no matter how well you explain your processes and how the client artist relationship should work, there are still clients out there that will only think of their side and will not consider you. At all.

Hope you all can learn from my mistake gang!

This kind of thing happens far too much.

Hey fam!!!

FINALLY got to do something for the rad Alpha Male Tea Party an Alpha Doggo barking at an incoming celestial being.

AMTP have been putting out consistently good music for well over ten years and back in the day I’m sure we shared some bills together (my memory is straight up leaking) I know we played the same Arctangent in 2016.

So its kinda fitting/rad that we’ve come together on a shirt for their performance this year.

Such lovely easy going people to work with and their latest album is killer.

Mad love to the guys for their trust and for ticking another (bands I wanna work with box)

Give me a holla if ur band wants some hand draw artwork or if you are an upcoming student/artist that has questions about processes or the biz of drawing for a living.

I can’t tell you what a comfort movie this is for me or how many times I’ve watched it.
