How I start a children’s book illustration in Procreate ✨🦙
For this birthday llama character, I began with a tiny story, first a sweet llama carrying a little gift. Then I built the illustration step by step using simple shapes, soft colours, texture and small storytelling details.
My process usually looks like this:
• Start with the character idea
• Build the sketch with simple shapes
• Add personality details
• Block in flat colours
• Add soft shadows and texture
• Finish with tiny storytelling elements
I used only default Procreate brushes for this illustration, including 6B Pencil, Dry Ink and Willow Charcoal.
