It's not only us that might struggle in this heat, devices do too. Here are some tips on how to keep your devices cool and running smoothly...

With the warm weather we're currently experiencing, we've been seeing an increase in support calls relating to computers and laptops shutting down unexpectedly. In most cases, this is simply your device protecting itself from overheating and there are a few straightforward things you can do to help keep things running smoothly.
Give your device room to breathe
Make sure air vents on the sides, back, or bottom of your device are not blocked by papers, bags, or walls. Laptops should sit on a hard flat surface, not on a pillow, sofa, or your lap as soft surfaces block the airflow underneath.
Keep out of direct sunlight
Direct sunlight through a window can raise the temperature of a device very quickly. If possible, move your workstation away from windows, or draw a blind during the hottest part of the day.
Check for dust build-up
Dust blocking vents is one of the most common causes of overheating. If you can see visible dust around the vents, a gentle blast of compressed air can make a real difference. Please avoid using a household vacuum directly on electronics.
Close apps you're not using
The more your processor is working, the more heat it generates. Closing browser tabs, background applications, and anything running unnecessarily reduces the load and helps keep temperatures down.
Consider switching to battery when possible (laptops)
Running on mains power with a fully charged battery still attached can generate additional heat. If your battery is healthy and you're doing light work, unplugging temporarily can help reduce the overall temperature of the device.
If your device shuts down unexpectedly, allow it to cool for at least 15–20 minutes before restarting. If it continues to happen regularly, please do get in touch, persistent overheating can sometimes indicate a hardware issue that needs attention before any damage is caused.
