Eighty years after Harold Rhodes began developing his revolutionary piano, former Rhodes General Foreman Roger Garvin reflects publicly for the first time on the people, craftsmanship and characters behind the original Fullerton factory, in conversation with Rhodes Chief Product Officer Dan Goldman.
Featuring never-before-seen photographs from Roger's personal archive (images 1 & 2), the article offers a rare first-hand glimpse inside one of the most influential musical instrument factories of its era and marks the beginning of a new series exploring 80 years of Rhodes history, innovation and craftsmanship.
As Rhodes approaches its 80th anniversary, Roger reflected on seeing that legacy carried forward in the forthcoming MK8/80AE:
"You folks have honoured what Harold Rhodes and Leo Fender created in the best possible way. What a showpiece."
