1️⃣ Start slow
Give your puppy a chew, step out of the room for a few seconds, and return. Slowly build up to minutes.
Your puppy learns the ultimate lesson in safe, tiny doses: you leave, and you *always* come back.
2️⃣ Make leaving boring
Skip the dramatic goodbyes and excited hellos. Leave and return as if you're just grabbing the mail.
Puppies mirror your energy. If you act like leaving is no big deal, they will too.
3️⃣ Practice while you're home
Let your puppy relax in their pen while you are in another room, even on days you don't leave the house.
It stops them from associating your departure cues (keys, shoes) with isolation. Being alone simply becomes a normal part of the day.
Stick to this for a few weeks. Soon, your puppy will stop watching the door because they already know how the story ends! 😌
