We're over the moon 🎉 to announce that Pycon Italia has been recognized by CSS Design Awards for our outstanding work in UX, UI, and Innovation! This achievement truly underscores the dedication and creativity of our extended team. A massive thank you 🙏 to our designers who meticulously crafted a colossal IA for all six (yes, six!) stages of the Event platform, and to our PyCon community of developers who tirelessly worked on the platform to bring our design to life.

But the accolades don't stop there. We've also received Special Kudos. According to the CSS Design Award definition, “Special Kudos is a professional 'pat on the back' for exemplary work that deserves recognition irrespective of winning WOTD.” We take it as a testament to our continuous efforts to push the boundaries of design in the digital realm 💻.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to CSS Design Awards and its community of judges and supporters for this honour, and to our amazing team who made this all possible.

Last week the London team gathered for a productive day in the office. It’s always so nice when we can be together in person and we were treated to a very beautiful winter sunset from floor 19 at , Stratford! 🌇

We then headed out for our Christmas dinner at the stunning independent Sardinian restaurant (Of course it had to be Italian 😉♥️) We highly recommend it as the food was simply gorgeous!

Our digital event platform project for Wella We Create edition 2021 made in collaboration with Smyle won the micebook V Award for Best Engagement. Roll Studio developed the platform to explore and create an amazing digital experience that showcased the first ever Wella’s annual hair event online, Wella We Create 2021!

Judges praised Smyle’s content production and engagement which catered to an 86% mobile-first audience with content provided in 11 different languages. The event itself smashed its target of 10000 participants with over 77000 registering and 25000 attending on the day with another 10000 watched on demand.

We are super proud to have worked on this project with the perfect creative partner Smyle and are grateful to have been recognised by the micebook Awards.

Meet our fabulous Producer Nafeesa! 🔮

✨ She brings all of the good energy and keeps everyone in line across an array of projects! ⁠Her eclectic and varied experience is what makes her perfect for her role in this exciting and ever-changing industry.

❤️‍🔥 In her spare time she runs Goodness Gracious Grief for those experiencing loss in their 20s and 30s to connect through creative spaces whilst also actively writing about her experiences and co-hosting a podcast What The Funk? ⁠with her best friend. ⁠

☕️ Her favourite thing to do is to go for long walks with a delicious coffee in hand or to go bouldering with friends. 🧗‍♀️ Oh and she also has the cutest little sausage dog called Dora! 🌭

🔥Those of you who work with the Python programming language will know that this movement originated in the United States and Python Conferences have now spread everywhere around the world.

✨We had the pleasure to work on the creative journey of the renewed identity of Pycon Italia, an Italian Python conference that has become one of the most important Python conferences in Europe, with almost 700 attendees and going ahead with its 12th edition!

💥The new Brand Identity features colourful illustrations, sharp lines and a modern style. Roll Studio also partnered with them in the design and development process of their new digital platform. The team utilised which played an integral part in the design system and the development process, led by our own Python rockstars Patrick Arminio and Acierno

🌈 It's always a highly enjoyable experience working on such creative projects! Every approach we take is driven by our playful spirit and an open mind as we are always looking for ways to unlock new capabilities to pass on to our clients.

✨ Last week we attended the Apple Developer Academy Federico II Futures Fair 2022 in Naples to connect with recent graduates. The Academy is an incredible learning and career opportunity for students across a diverse age range and background which has helped to fuel aspiring coders, creators, and entrepreneurs across Europe.

✨ We had a great time meeting the extremely talented and driven students as they look to embark on their careers. The international environment and the immersive experiences they have had were incredibly aligned to our values here at Roll Studio, which meant we enjoyed every minute of the coaching sessions we provided to 68 people!

✨ After receiving many applications for active job roles we have to offer, it will be very difficult to choose future Rollers amongst this very rich pool of talent. For everyone at the event, we wish you the best of luck in your future prospects!

🚨We are super excited to announce that the first iteration of Yaan Store UK is live! Yaan is where creative makers are matched with charities through a marketplace that enables the crafters to showcase and donate their creations and for charities to sell the donated goods as part of fundraising activities.

✏️The brief was to create a world-first marketplace in its genre, with the ambition to transform the fundraising experience as we know it. To overcome the challenges of no active competitors present to benchmark against, we conducted UX research to better define the audience and profiled the user typologies to build this user-centric digital product.

🗒Through the definition of the Design Opportunity Statement and the Empathy Map it was easy to identify user needs and product goals. This approach allowed the team to collate user stories, prioritise these and organise an agile workflow.

🧶In terms of branding the phrase “to spin a yarn” which means to tell a story, usually a long, imaginative, colourful and unlikely story influenced the brand name “Yaan”. This formed the basis of our creative design, and from which the first foundations of the tone of voice emerged; friendly, playful, open and strong.

🎨For the creation of the brand itself we were inspired by natural shapes, patterns, handmade vibes and irregular shapes that will remind our users that each of our products are unique and no two are the same. We used bright colours, such as pink, yellow or orange in a playful style.

🤝Creating a space for makers to align with charities and donors, Yaan unlocks a hidden economy, leading to significant and positive economic impact, and encouraging more people to get involved in arts and crafts activities. We are proud to be involved with such a project as we can witness its future growth and contribute to its evolution which aligns with our strong belief that we can purpose digital activities for the good to help create a better world. Here are 5 of our favourite updates 👇🏼
The Roll Studio design team were at Config 2022✨ a global design conference by Figma where over 100 different speakers led 68 different sessions! Before sharing our recommendations, we made sure to test these updates and here are our top 5💥-

1. Dark mode: Being able to design in this mode is a joy, we can work more comfortably and also reduce eye fatigue by varying between the different options 👀

2. Auto layout: It has come to revolutionise the way we design 💻 as now we can create fully responsive designs using the negative space and the absolute position plus more.

3. Individual strokes: We are delighted with this new feature, no more squares and lines, now we have the absolute power to customise everything 🎨

4. Smart animation: With the new animation options we can make prototypes that are identical to the final result that we wanted📱The possibility of being able to customise them ourselves gives us a range of possibilities!

5. Spotlight: How many times have we said 'Follow me on Figma'... now this is over! For us to be able to turn on the Spotlight into a collaborative tool is great! This way we can ensure that our colleagues can understand and have an easier and more comfortable experience 🫂.

These are just the top 5 but we can't forget other fantastic features such as branching, the ability to add passwords to files and the new 'favourites' amongst others.

She is an integral part of our strategic growth strategy, which is supported by a talented team who are creative, problem solvers and strategic thinkers with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Born and raised in Barcelona, Clara enjoys the sunshine 🌞 A kind person who loves animals 🐕. In her free time she never misses a good gym class whether it's pilates, hiit, cycling or boxing 🥊

Check out one of our latest app builds that has been designed and developed for Arduino! “The Arduino Science Journal app” (formerly Science Journal, an initiative by Google) is a free app that helps students to learn interactively, conduct experiments and iterate on findings whilst also being linked to the science curricula in the US and UK. 🧑‍🏫

Arduino set three fundamental points as a need for the evolution of the Science Journal app:
🔸 Simplify, improve and enrich the user experience
🔸 Give a new look and feel to the user interface, consistent with the Arduino design system
🔸 Re-engineer the application in order to make the maintenance process more fluid and simple with the use of cutting-edge techniques

✅ User research and user tests were conducted to provide an overview, whilst analysing the current situation, collecting user needs, discovering pain points and business goals, which enabled our design team to map out new features, define the information architecture and develop user tasks.

👩🏻‍💻New user flows have been created as most of the previous ones have evolved. This new status quo required the introduction of the best-in-class interaction patterns based on predictable use cases and user scenarios.

🎨The main goal of the UX was to create a new experience without disrupting the habits of over 1 million+ current downloads of the application therefore demo sessions were a mandatory step to validate the prototypes.

📚The addition of the Google Classroom integration has empowered education organisations to have a seamless way to assign homework and experiment tasks straight from the app.
