ting your products. During almost 20 years in marketing, I have worked with a huge range of companies. Initially with restaurants, hotels and luxury holiday properties – drawing on my skills from Leith’s School of Food and Wine where I studied for a year before university. On to education where I was the Marketing Manager for a regional 6th Form College. In 2010 I studied Fine & Decorative Art & Design at Sotheby’s Institute in London which lead to working with Butchoff Antiques – Europe’s top 18th-century furniture dealer – for 6 years. I founded Wildcurrant in 2018 to offer my services to smaller companies, artists and craftsmen who need holistic marketing advice and application. Towards the end of 2019, I was invited by Sarah Hamilton, founder of the campaign on Instagram, to become the Just a Card Digital Marketing Membership Tutor. Anthropic bought millions of second-hand books, cut the spines off, scanned every page, then binned the paper.

The story went viral as “AI company burns books”. The real version is duller and stranger.

Why they wanted them: so much of the web is now written by AI that the web has stopped being useful as training material. Books written before 2022 are long-form, structured, human-written and often never digitised. That makes them worth a fortune.

Why destroy them: a court found that turning one bought print copy into one private digital copy counts as fair use. Downloading pirated books did not, and Anthropic settled that for $1.5 billion.

What actually went through the shredder: mostly used stock. Obsolete software manuals, phone directories, old textbooks. Not medieval manuscripts.

Worth sitting with: an AI company spent millions on paper books because it could no longer trust what it found online. Your website is part of what it found online.

So. Would you trust an AI trained this way to write your website copy? Tell me below.

My AI coach is Kyle Balmer, if you’d like the link to his video explaining this in detail comment BOOK

When Vintage Vehicle Restorations first came to me, there was no website to rebuild.

Although an established business there was no website at all.

The owner was uncomfortable with technology and not at all convinced a website was what he needed.

Fair enough. His work speaks for itself in person. The problem was that nobody could find it before the in-person bit.

So we built the site around one distinction that matters enormously to his customers and to nobody else: he restores vintage vehicles, not classic vehicles.

If you own one, you know the difference.

The site is written so that the right owner, searching the right term, lands on a page that talks about their vehicle in their language.

I ran into him the other day. He told me the website is the best thing he ever did with his business. He’s busy every day of the week.

No tricks. Just a site built for the specific people who were already searching for exactly what he does.

If your website has gone quiet, or if you’re where he was and don’t have one at all, the first step is a discovery call. Link in bio.

The enquiries didn’t stop overnight.

They faded. A few less each month, until one day you realised the contact form had gone quiet and you couldn’t say when it happened.

Nothing broke. No error message. That’s what makes it so easy to miss — and so easy to blame on “things being slow at the moment”.

Most owners assume the fix is a whole new website. Often it isn’t. Usually it’s one of five common problems quietly switching your site off in Google’s eyes, and most of them you can check yourself.

My free guide, Why Has My Website Gone Quiet?, gives you the five warning signs, a five-point SEO check you can run with no tools and no jargon, and one simple way to see whether ChatGPT and Google’s AI recommend you.

Comment QUIET and I’ll send it straight over.

In March, this site had no relevant SEO history at all. No rankings, no traffic, nothing. It hadn't existed before.

I built it with the right structure, the right pages targeting the right searches.

Three months later: 48 keywords ranking on pages 1 and 2. Organic traffic up 192% in 90 days. 400 clicks from Google Search in the past 28 days - up from 300 in April.

That's not a miracle. It's what happens when a website is built with search in mind from the start, rather than treated as an afterthought once the design is done.

If you're thinking about a new website, or wondering why your existing one isn't performing, a Power Hour is a good place to start. One hour, honest conversation, clear list.

DM me POWER and I’ll send you the link to book.

Be the Business Google Recommends.

16/06/2026

Google has changed how it shows local search results. Before the map, before any websites, there is now often an AI-generated paragraph recommending a handful of businesses by name.
The businesses it names are not the biggest or the oldest. They are the ones with complete, active, well-maintained Google Business Profiles.

Be the Business Google Recommends shows you exactly how to become one of them. (wildcurrant-marketing-9kdmgo.subscribepage.io)

What is inside
* 10 lessons covering every part of your Google Business Profile - from setup and verification to photos, posts, products, and reviews
* A plain-English explanation of how Google's AI uses your profile to decide who to recommend in local search
* The honest picture on website traffic in 2026 - what has changed, what to measure, and why a strong profile matters more than ever
* A simple monthly maintenance routine that takes about twenty minutes
* A bonus lesson on Bing Places - ten minutes of setup that gives AI systems one more reason to trust your business

Who it is for
Small business owners, sole traders, makers, and service providers with a local audience - anyone who wants to show up when someone nearby searches for what they do.
You do not need to be technical. Every step is explained clearly. You can follow it in a weekend.

What it will not do
This course is honest about what a Google Business Profile can and cannot achieve. On its own it will not dominate every local search across multiple towns. For that you also need a well-structured website, strong directory listings, and a considered approach to keywords. The course explains all of this, and points you towards the next steps if you want them.

Are you eligible to use a Google Business Profile:
To qualify for a Business Profile, a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours:
* Any business with a physical premises customers can visit — shops, studios, clinics, salons, restaurants
* Appointment-only businesses — a medical practice or consulting firm that meets clients by scheduled visit still qualifies
* Service area businesses (SABs) that travel to the customer — plumbers, electricians, mobile dog groomers, house cleaners. Since 2019 they can hide their home address and just show service areas
* Seasonal businesses, like an ice-skating rink only open in winter, as long as they display permanent signage at the location year-round
* Home-based businesses, as long as they serve customers in person or within a service area

NB For craftspeople, artists, sculptors and the like:..a ceramicist, sculptor, or artist working from a home or dedicated studio who sells at fairs and takes commissions can legitimately have a Google Business Profile - set up as a service area business if they do not want their home address shown, or as a storefront if they welcome visitors to their studio.

Most small business owners are still measuring their Google performance by website clicks.

That metric is becoming less useful by the month.

AI Overviews - the AI-generated answers that now appear at the very top of Google search results - are changing what “being found” actually means.

The businesses named in those answers aren’t necessarily the closest, the biggest, or the longest established.

They’re the ones whose Google Business Profile gave the AI enough to work with.

One of the ten lessons in my guide covers exactly this - what feeds AI Overviews, what signals Google is looking for, and what it means for how you measure whether your profile is actually working.

The rest of the guide is just as specific.
