Site Recorder 4 was developed from the original 3H product called Site Surveyor. Site Surveyor was developed to overcome some of the problems found when surveying shipwreck sites; Site Surveyor was completed during work on the Resurgam submarine in 1997. The complexity of site recording during the excavation of the Dutch East Indiaman Vliegent Hart in 2000 showed that there was a need for a single program that was capable of capturing all of the information about a site. Site Recorder 3 was developed to fulfill that need and was used on a number of major projects including the Mary Rose excavations in 2003 - 2005.
