💨 Meet the Shortfin Mako – the fastest shark in the world. 🦈

Did you know the Shortfin Mako can be found in UK waters? Although sightings are rare, these incredible sharks visit our seas, particularly during the warmer months.

Capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 mph (72 km/h), the Shortfin Mako is built for speed. Its streamlined body, powerful tail, and incredible agility make it one of the ocean’s most efficient predators.

Growing to up to 4 metres in length, they hunt a variety of prey including tuna, mackerel, squid, and other fast-swimming fish, playing an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

Unfortunately, Shortfin Makos are under threat from overfishing and accidental bycatch, and their populations have declined significantly in many parts of the world.

Every shark has a vital role in keeping our oceans balanced. By protecting sharks, we’re helping to protect the health of our seas—including those right here around the UK. 🌊

Have you ever known that the world’s fastest shark visits UK waters?

🌊 BlueTrail Website Update

We’ve made some big updates to the BlueTrail website today, and they’re available to explore now.

While we continue building the BlueTrail app, the website now gives visitors a much clearer look at what we’re creating and why it matters.

New updates include:

🌊 Ocean Awareness Videos:
A new video section featuring powerful films about marine life, bottom trawling, coral reefs, plastic pollution, cetacean hunting and ocean protection.

📍 Detailed BlueTrail App Vision Page:
We’ve added a full page explaining what BlueTrail is being built for — including dive site discovery, snorkelling locations, saved spots, dive logs, species education, route tracking, friends, community features and conservation guidance.

🐟 More Marine Photography:
The site now includes more real ocean and wildlife photography, including marine species, coastal habitats and conservation-focused imagery.

📝 Early Access Signup:
You can now join the BlueTrail early access list directly through the website. This helps us understand who is interested, what features people want, and how BlueTrail can better support divers, snorkellers, wildlife watchers and coastal explorers.

BlueTrail is being built to help people explore the ocean more safely, discover incredible coastal locations, record their experiences, connect with others, and protect the marine environments they visit.

Explore. Dive. Protect.
