This week we wrote two thousand words about a water tank.

In our defence: it's eight-sided, it's older than the village it stands in, it has an actual fan club who have visited twice, and after ninety-three years of continuous public service the county heritage record lists its official status as "none recorded." Which seems a bit much.

This week we produced a full criminal-history dossier — company profile, departments, payroll breakdown, customer reviews from both sides of the law…

…for a field. 🌾

Tiptree Heath: once the lawless HQ of an Essex smuggling operation running gin, brandy and heavily-taxed tea. Now a nature reserve with ponies on it. It has never contacted us, has no marketing budget, and is — legally speaking — some plants.

It now has a better write-up than most businesses in Essex.

Which rather raises a question, doesn't it. 🛰️

Did you know that Tiptree used to have its own railway? 🚂

It ran from 1904 to 1951 and was originally built mainly to transport Wilkin’s jam. Apparently Arthur Wilkin threatened to move the whole factory to Dagenham unless someone built him a railway… so they actually did. 💀

The trains only reached about 25mph, only one could be on the line at a time, there were no signals, and people often bought their tickets on trust. Sunday service? 😂

A Victorian sewer-gas vent that's stood outside the shops since around 1890. Never complained, never took a day off, and has more years of loyal local service than most of us will ever manage.
