If I had to choose a favourite web design client… (but obviously I don't have favourites 😉) The Hummingbird Centre would be one of them.

This Bicester-based cancer support and therapy centre is run by an incredible team of volunteers providing a whole range of services and complementary therapies to support people and their families on their cancer journey.

After a complete redesign of their website I’ve continued to work closely with the team for the last few years.

How do I help?

Here are just some of the things I support the charity with:

✨ Supporting fundraising events with new e-commerce functionality
✨ Updating regular news stories and the "What's On" section
✨ Creating new service pages and adding content
✨ Turning Word & Excel Docs into user-friendly content
✨ Uploading newsletters and brochures
✨ Providing general guidance and support
✨ Hosting the site with a green provider and handling all updates, security and back-ups

Do you have a DIY website?

If you're not a professional web designer It can be easy to get bogged down with choosing colours, fonts, images and layouts.

If design isn't your thing then keep it simple. Focus on what you know best - your business.

✋CLARITY IS KEY✋

If you can focus on these things you'll be setting a good foundation for your website. 👇

👉What can you offer your customers?
👉How can your services or products benefit your customers?
👉Do you have a clear goal for your website and are your call to actions helping you achieve your goal?
👉Is your website content really relevant to what your customers need to know?

So if you're not a designer it's always better to keep your design simple rather than risk distracting your customers from your content.

This year I'll not only be celebrating Christmas with my family but also the achievement of setting up my own web design business.

Like any new business owner It's been a roller coaster journey with challenges and obstacles, hard work, lots of resilience and learning new things.

How do you get your website visitor to do the thing you want them to do?

Call-To-Action buttons (CTAs for short) are triggers that encourage your website visitors to do something.

This could be buying a product, signing up to your newsletter or booking an appointment...whatever your own business goal might be.

Good CTAs will keep your visitors from leaving your website and lead them to do the thing you want them to do.

CTAs are often buttons but don't have to be, as long as they stand out and clearly look like something that could be clicked on!

They work well if you think of them as commands....sign up, learn more, buy now.

Keep your CTAs short, direct and clear as to what will happen when your visitor clicks (or touches)!
