Some moments in a designer's journey don't make noise—they leave a mark.
Watching a room full of people experience a symbol that once existed only as rough sketches and scattered ideas, is a feeling that's difficult to describe.
Long before the reveal, there were questions to answer:
- How do you represent an entire discipline in one mark?
- How do you honour 50 years of legacy while designing for the next 50?
- How do you create something that feels timeless instead of trendy?
Every curve, proportion, colour choice and geometric relationship was intentional. Every revision pushed the identity closer to becoming a true reflection of the Department of Geomatic Engineering.
Seeing that identity unveiled before alumni, faculty, students and professionals wasn't simply the presentation of a logo.
It was the presentation of a shared story—one rooted in precision, innovation, earth observation and engineering excellence.
As designers, we rarely get attached to the final artwork alone.
We remember the conversations, the rejected ideas, the moments of doubt, the breakthrough sketches and the belief that the smallest refinement can change everything.
Today, this mark belongs to the department.
Tomorrow, it will belong to generations of Geomatic Engineers who will wear it, print it, and carry it into classrooms, laboratories, conferences and the world beyond.
That's the quiet power of identity design.
You create for a moment, but you hope it lives for decades.
