okay so I found a prompt on last night and now I’m a cartoon character and I genuinely think this is the best thing that’s happened to me this week 🌟

my grid, apparently, if it was drawn by a very talented 6-year-old with access to coloured pencils, stickers, and an extensive sweet collection.

drop a 🍭 in the comments if you want the prompt so you can try it on your own feed!

My first two clients were in Canada and the Netherlands. No referrals, no introductions, no word of mouth. They found me on Facebook, of all places.

I wasn't ready. I didn't have everything figured out. I just had a profile and I was showing up.

That was enough.

In this episode of the Core Brands Podcast, Louise McDonnell and I talk about why so many people are waiting until they're ready to start showing up on social media, and why that wait is the most expensive mistake you can make.

You don't need to be ready. You just need to start.

Weekly studio notes, week two.

This week: two projects wrapped and handed over, a logo project that finally found its direction, two discovery calls, and nervous thoughts about running the Dublin Marathon in October.

Also talking through what I’ve been trying in the business lately and a podcast episode that I think I you are going to love!

Drop your questions or thoughts below, I’d love to hear from you.

Hand sketching was always a big part of my process. Not because I'm great at it, but because that's our my brain works - I think about it i have to make it visual!

It usually starts on paper, rough sketches whenever inspiration comes, and when something feels worth developing further, I move it over to my to draw the vector directly in Illustrator.

It's been a game changer honestly. I find it so much easier to draw by hand than to wrestle with the pen tool IYKYK 😅

All the finishing touches then happen on the laptop.

It’s pretty interesting how much of our business life is actually just us repeating things we heard when we were kids.

I called the podcast Core Brands because I believe the best businesses are built from a place that’s real and meaningful. But it’s hard to get to that "core" when you’re still carrying around old rules about being "strong" or "doing more" that you picked up before you were even ten.

In this clip, Amerjeet talks about why those early habits stick with us and how they quietly show up in our leadership today. If you’ve ever felt like you’re hitting a wall you can't quite see, this conversation might help explain why.

Check out the full episode to hear more about letting go of those old patterns and building something a bit more authentic.

Sometimes being a brand designer means doing things that have absolutely nothing to do with design.

I've learned origami to come up with a brand icon. I've booked energy healing sessions to understand what a client actually does for people. I've bought a client's products just to feel firsthand what their customer experience is like.

Right now I'm deep in learning about domain expansion, because if I can't understand what my client does at that level, I can't translate it visually in a way that means something.

This one is taking me longer than usual to unlock and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But that slow, slightly uncomfortable feeling of being completely new to something?

That's actually why I love this work.

I get to learn about worlds I'd never have stepped into on my own. Every client teaches me something. And when I'm in a creative rut, going back to why I do this, helping people untangle their ideas and bring a brand to life in a way that actually reflects who they are, that's always what brings me back.

It's why I always say the visual part is the last thing. You have to understand the core before you can build the form.
Behind every logo is a designer who went a little bit deeper than the brief asked.

What's something unexpected you've had to learn for a project? I'd love to know I'm not the only one.
