A lot of businesses think of their homepage as a place to fit everything.

Every service.
Every paragraph.
Every possible piece of information.

But most visitors make a decision long before they read all of that.

They’re subconsciously asking:
→ Am I in the right place?
→ Does this business feel trustworthy?
→ Is this easy to understand?
→ Do I want to keep exploring?

In hospitality especially, people are choosing based on feeling just as much as logic.

The atmosphere starts before they ever arrive in person.

Which is why a clear, thoughtful homepage matters more than people think.

Your website doesn’t need to be flashy.
It just needs to feel easy to step into.

Absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in the Creative Arts/Digital Media category for the Connect Kerry Women in Business Awards! đŸ„ł

Filling out the application was actually a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the past year. I'm usually hiding behind a screen, so while this is slightly outside my comfort zone, it's a great chance to celebrate all the hard work done by not just me, but by fellow business women across Kerry. đŸ€—

Huge thanks to the organisers
I'm really looking forward to celebrating with everyone on 5th June! 💃

Hospitality businesses spend years perfecting the in-person experience.

The atmosphere.
The music.
The menu.
The tiny details customers remember afterwards.

But online?

Sometimes that same business is represented by a Google listing and a few blurry photos from 2019.

And the thing is, tourists, weekend visitors and even locals often discover cafés for the first time on a tiny phone screen before they ever walk through the door.

That first impression matters.

A simple landing page can completely change how people perceive your business online. Not because it needs to be flashy, but because it helps people feel the space before they arrive.

The difference between:
“some cafĂ© nearby”

and

“we HAVE to go there.”

Especially heading into summer, when people are actively searching for places to eat, stay and visit.

Small digital details make a big difference.

My Brand Story ⛰

Peak Pixel Design didn’t begin at a laptop.

It began much earlier, growing up surrounded by Kerry mountains and going to school at the foot of Ireland’s highest peak.

At the time, it was just home.

Only later did I realise how much those landscapes shaped the way I think and work.

Perspective.
Clarity.
Space.

Those same principles now shape every website and brand I build.

Funny how the places we grow up in keep finding their way into what we create.

Has a place shaped you in ways you only noticed later?

Your website doesn’t need to be more impressive.

It needs to be more obvious.

What you do.
Who it’s for.
What to do next.

Clarity converts.
Confusion doesn’t.

Most people think their website isn’t working because something is “off.”

The design, the copy, the layout

Something just isn’t quite landing.

But more often than not, it’s not a quality problem.
It’s a clarity one.

Because when someone lands on your website, they’re not arriving with time or patience.
They’re arriving with a question:

“Is this for me?”

And if that answer isn’t immediately obvious, not explained, not hidden halfway down the page, but felt
they don’t stay long enough to figure it out.

Not out of disinterest.
Just uncertainty.

We tend to overestimate how much people will read, and underestimate how quickly they decide.

So instead of asking:
“Does this sound good?”

It’s often more useful to ask:
“Is this instantly clear?”

That shift alone tends to change everything.

Accessibility isn't a feature. It is not something you add at the end or try to fix later. It is the foundation your design either stands on or the reason it quietly excludes people.

In web design, we often mistake minimal for simple. Minimal is just less: less text, less contrast, less guidance. In reality, that usually makes a site less usable. True simplicity takes a lot more work and much more intention. It is not just about a clean look. It is about making sure a site is easy to move through for everyone, in every situation. Not just on the ideal days.

If your design only works when everything is perfect, it does not really work at all.

Let's start designing for real life.

Most websites aren’t underperforming because they’re outdated.

They’re underperforming because they look like everyone else.

Trends are designed to spread.
Not to differentiate you.

And when your website blends in

you stop feeling like a clear choice.

You start feeling interchangeable.

That’s why I don’t design “on trend” websites.

I design around the brand itself, its tone, its positioning and the experience it needs to create.

Because a good website shouldn’t need replacing every year.
It should still feel like you long after the trend has passed.

If you’re ready for a website that actually reflects your brand (not the internet), let’s talk.
