Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), an Independent Business Division under DIC, a section 8 company of MeitY, Government of India, has signed an MoU with Kathmandu University, Nepal, to co-create a National Digital Infrastructure for a Voice First Language Translation Platform for Nepal.

The partnership marks a significant international milestone for BHASHINI's open and interoperable Language AI ecosystem, taking India's vision of inclusive, multilingual digital transformation beyond its borders.

By combining cutting-edge AI with Digital Public Infrastructure, the collaboration will support the development of Nepali language datasets, speech technologies, machine translation, multilingual conversational AI, and digital services designed around the languages people speak every day.

At its core, this is about making technology accessible to everyone. It is about ensuring that language is never a barrier to accessing opportunities, public services, knowledge, or participation in the digital economy.

As BHASHINI continues to power multilingual experiences across governance, education, innovation, and public service delivery, this partnership reinforces a larger vision: a world where technology speaks every language and every voice matters.

This collaboration will enable AI-powered multilingual services, voice-first technologies, translation capabilities, and language technologies across DPIIT's digital platforms, making information and services more accessible to entrepreneurs, startups, investors, businesses, and citizens in their preferred languages.

In the lead-up to the India AI Impact Summit, Bhashini and Current AI made a simple commitment: To bring open-source physical AI to India.

This partnership resulted in the creation of the Suno Sutra device, a multilingual, open-source, local AI, prototype device, unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit.

This prototype has been successfully created. The question became what more can we do.

We are taking the prototype apart: every piece of this design, including the models, the source code, the design assembly, all of it is completely open source. With all the source code available on our GitHub repositories.
