As per study involving 60,000 employees for Remote Work - the survey finds while short term productivity goes up, the creativity goes down. It is primarily because of absence of "cooler side conversation".

Indian IT companies such as TCS, HCL, Infosys redefined the Remote IT services model successfully with Y2K projects being catalyst. These companies pioneered the art of innovation with high productivity utilizing remote delivery centers where the employees have been far away from the actual business environment and the clients. However, here the remote teams have been collocated and the innovation model worked fairly well in the environment.
However, today COVID has forced teams into ‘REMOTE’ fragmentation to the individual entity level. The staff is working from home and they may not join back to the office anytime soon. So, instead of multiple collocated teams, the companies have now project teams working at remote locations individually ie at the atomic level. That is where the Microsoft study has highlighted the potential loss of innovation.
While advocating Digital Transformation for the clients, the IT Service provider companies have now the greater challenge to tap into the creativity and innovative ideas of each employee working remotely. For this to happen, they may need to re-orient their innovation processes, deploy tools, provision for formal brainstorming sessions and other new solutions. At least the IT industry who has been continuously evolving itself will be sure to meet this expectation and challenge.
