Love Chrome or Forget Flash...

Adobe recently announced that they will stop offering Flash player support for Linux. Linux users won’t get any newer versions of Flash Player in future. Flash player 11.2 is the last one. Before all Linux lovers start panicking, let me tell you that you will be able to see high quality Flash files, but to do that, they must install Google Chrome browser.

Linux was never a very promising OS and recent data shows that only 2% web users use it. Hence, Adobe decided to stop wasting their time and money to provide Linux support.

Adobe will release security upgrades for 11.2 in coming five years, but it won’t release any new version in Linux. The new versions will only be available in Chrome. Five years is a quite long time and Flash Player 11.2 offers only basic features. Seeing the rapid progress of animation industry, I think more people will choose Chrome.

Adobe’s this decision will hurt Mozilla badly. Since, the launch of Chrome, Firefox lost its popularity. Windows users mostly prefer Chrome, but Linux users never left their favorite Firefox. However, after this decision, they will be compelled to change their choice to see the most ultra modern animation effects.

Google and Adobe joined hands to create a new kind of API named PPAPI for better Flash support. The fact is Google have already spent 3 years to develop PPAPI. This new tool will work on various browsers and operating systems, but right now it supports only Chrome. Unfortunately for Mozilla, they didn’t see the future and said they are not interested in PAPPI.
