The big boys are now in town after a rather lengthy development journey. The 15" drivers are the top guys in the Punch series from Rockford Fosgate. P212 and P312 will be dropping soon, I just couldn't resist doing the big boys first, ata kaa ni wewe si the thrill for big subs ingekulemea 😁. P312 is already done, just a few touch ups, so chill kiasi. Many thanks to Rockford Fosgate East Africa for the great team work since we started with the P112.
I know and you know in your heart there's that rare deep hard-to-get quality bass that you've always wished for. That bass that speaks to your soul, the bass that makes you miss home, the bass that you are proud to be associated with, the bass that you want your name on whenever bass talk happens, the bass that syncs with your higher self, that makes you smile 😌, that makes you kind and friendly and nicer and pop and.... Well, the problem is the budget for such kind of bass is not for the faint of heart.
But I got you 🤙🏽, this is where yours truly comes in, because for just 75k, you walk away with P215, like seriously. Even better is P315 for just 120k!! But wait, why is P215 so cheap? Glad you asked, it's coz this particular model is the old model which has since been discontinued by the manufacturer, so the few pieces available are being offered at a clearance deal, grab them while you can.
The P215 delivers that clean bass effortlessly down to f3 of 19.6hz and f6 of 18.2hz, handling 200W rms and a peak of 500W. Don't be fooled by the seemingly low power because with that surface area, it really does move some air. The dual port design ensures clean output free from any port noises because maximum velocity is just 13m/s occurring @21.2hz with full power. It uses the same plate Amp as P112, but runs a different program on the DSP to account for different driver and design.
P315 is just something else, it's a beast in its own right.... Ati why you ask? The thing can sure dig deep, going as low as 18.5hz and 16.4hz . The triple tuning ports ensures noise free performance while maintaining driver stability(loading) with max velocity of 15m/s occurring @20.6hz(This is made possible by the algorithms implemented on the DSP) and depending with room and proper placement, don't be surprised hitting lows of 14hz or lower. But how? Well the sub is powered by a 600W RMS class D Amp. Sasa shida ilikua designing the Amp ju wueh🥵.....it ain't that easy building from scratch an actual full class D high power Amp that will deliver clean power, if at all you need maximum control of the sub, but the effort was totally worth it. The Amp features some amazing new tech in class D amplification. This includes
1) advanced chip featuring PurePath Ultra-HD from Texas Instruments,
2) Analog Device's 28/56-bit, 50MIPs digital audio processor, with excellent SNR of 104dB and THD+N of -90dB.
3) STMicroelectronics' 32-bit ARM-CORTEX based MCU offering precise overall system control.
All this marry beautifully on the pcb which is probably the part I enjoy most to design. But the board doesn't care if I enjoy or not, it still needs the algorithm to run. Writing the program is by far the most tricky part, countless debugging hours will pass, days, weeks, months....but we are finally here.
