How could smart cities be as inclusive as possible? Smart, Digitalized and Highly Inclusive Cities have been the lifetime dream of Daniele Gambero, co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Athena Smart Cities!​

Data and number scientist with a huge passion for properties, he has been developing an exclusive algorithmic model to precisely predict the demand of properties based on integrated social, demographic, economic and properties data. ​

With more than 35 years of global experience in the built environment, since 2008, he has been promoting and doing research on the urbanisation of affordable housing through inclusive, sustainable and innovative modelling. ​

Passionate about technology and innovation, Daniele has been a serial entrepreneur all his life and since 2019, he has been leading the Malaysia PropTech Association as its deputy president first and current president. ​

Athena Smart City, the global platform for local solutions, nice tagline but, who are the faces behind it? What do they have in mind, and what is their storyline?​

Let us introduce them to you in a few posts, one founder and two co-founders!​

Let's start with Angela Kew, the master minder of Athena! Angela, with a deep technology background, has been for years a software developer who has helped countless businesses on their digitalisation journey. ​

Mother of two and happily married for 22 years, she has had a mission in mind since she was young! Helping businesses and communities find their way towards digital transformation. ​

Analytic and systematic in her planning, she has been helping tens of thousands of homeowners managing their properties while building sustainable communities. ​

Her dream and vision is to be able to help urbanities all around the world become smarter in the true meaning of smartness!​

"Own the Battlefield", from Sun Tzu's The Art of War!​

It might appear funny to use war strategies from one of the masters of the past. Still, after reading Sun Tzu's for decades, I've realised that these warfare tips and tricks are 100% applicable to many different functions within today's business world!​

This post is the first of a "The Art of War" inspired series related to Smart Cities. Please help me correct my mistakes by sharing in the comments and telling your success stories about this theme.​

"Whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy will be fresh for the fight; whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle will arrive exhausted."​

If we interpret this using a Smart City language translator, it could be telling us:​

Smart City management must "own" the city or its: ​
1. water reticulation and consumption ​
2. energy distribution and efficiency,​
3. stormwater management, floods and their prevention​
4. traffic, smart traffic lights and emergencies management​
5. security​
6. public transportation ​
7. health status of green areas, their maintenance and possible improvement​
8. ...much more....​

When a Smart City control/command centre "owns" the city, it means it has every single layer monitored and under control. "Owning" a city could only be realised once a city digital twin is developed bottom-up layer by layer.

Then every emergency will be signalled and taken care of in seconds, providing a smart digital infrastructure is ready to receive and interconnect all data and applications!

The future is no more about connectivity but interconnectivity! ​
