BDLI WEEKLY WEBINAR: LEADERSHIP BEFORE THE TITLE :
On Wednesday, 18th August 2026, the Bonny Digital Literacy Initiative (BDLI) hosted an insightful webinar on “Leadership Before the Title: Becoming the Professional People Can Trust,” facilitated by Sotonye Bright, Founder and CEO of Brighter L&D Institute.
The session challenged participants to understand that leadership is not defined by a position, title, or office. Instead, true leadership begins with the habits and values we demonstrate every day.
During the webinar, participants explored 5 Habits of Leadership Before the Title:
1. Self-Leadership: Own Your Standards
Leadership begins with the ability to lead yourself. Setting high personal standards and holding yourself accountable is the foundation for becoming someone others can trust.
2. Initiative : Act Without Waiting
Great leaders do not always wait to be instructed. They identify what needs to be done and take responsible action.
3. Accountability : No Excuses, Just Fixes
Being accountable means taking responsibility for your actions, learning from mistakes, and focusing on solutions rather than excuses.
4. Communication : Speak Clearly, Listen Well
Effective leadership requires clear communication and the ability to listen, understand others, and respond appropriately.
5. Teamwork : Lift the Whole Team
Leadership is not about getting ahead alone. It is about supporting others, collaborating effectively, and contributing to the success of the entire team.
Key takeaway:
You do not need a leadership title to demonstrate leadership. Every student has the opportunity to show leadership through their attitude, responsibility, initiative, communication, and willingness to support others.
The webinar was engaging, practical, and highly valuable as our students continue to develop the technical and professional skills needed to thrive in today’s world.
A big thank you to Sotonye Bright for sharing these important lessons with the BDLI community
