NAF air strikes destroy terrorist hideouts in north-east, north-west

he Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out successful air strikes in the north-east and north-west regions, targeting terrorist hideouts and eliminating their logistics and fighters. The operations, conducted between January 1 and 2, were part of joint task forces under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fasan Yamma Sector 2.

According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF's director of public relations and information, the air strikes were based on actionable intelligence on terrorist movements and planned attacks. The strikes destroyed identified hideouts, movement routes, and assembly areas, dealing a significant blow to terrorist networks.

In the north-east, precision strikes hit terrorist enclaves at Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle, destroying facilities linked to improvised explosive device production and attack planning. Multiple secondary explosions were observed, indicating the elimination of explosive stockpiles and critical logistics.

The NAF also conducted decisive airstrikes in the north-west, particularly around Karaduwa Giginya Na in Katsina State, targeting terrorist convoys moving in large motorcycle groups. Post-strike assessments confirmed the neutralization of several terrorists, destruction of motorcycles, and elimination of assorted weapons.

Follow-on operations at Guva in the Mandara Mountains dismantled terrorist storage and coordination nodes, severely degrading their ability to regroup or launch attacks. The NAF assures Nigerians that these operations will continue with precision and professionalism, protecting civilians and restoring peace.

The NAF's sustained air interdiction campaign aims to deny terrorists freedom of movement, operational depth, and safe havens within Nigeria's territory. The service remains committed to supporting national security objectives and restoring lasting peace across affected regions.

Kio Amachree, a political analyst specializing in Nigeria-American relations, suggests that the US is sending a strong signal to Nigeria's political elite that change is necessary. The recent visa withdrawals targeting Nigerian officials and their families are just the beginning, and further penalties are being discussed. This move indicates that the US no longer tolerates Nigeria's current political arrangement. ¹

The tolerance Washington once had for Nigerian leaders has evaporated, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lacks the internal security backing and elite support needed to remain secure under pressure. The silence from key Nigerian figures is telling, and their absence from public view feeds speculation and anxiety.

Historically, visa bans are followed by expanded sanctions, financial scrutiny, and international isolation of individuals, which signals that Washington is pushing for internal political change in Nigeria. The US is applying similar pressure elsewhere, from Africa to Latin America, and Nigeria is now in that zone.

The Nigerian elite understands this shift and is recalculating loyalty, leading to a quieter, more cautious approach. Amachree notes that when Washington withdraws visas and tightens the screws, change is no longer a matter of if, but when.

POLITICAL THUGGERY: LOGO CHAIRMAN ALLEGEDLY STOP SAN FROM HONOR OF UGONDO CHIEFTAINCY TITLE

LOGO.

The Ugondu Day Celebration in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State was alleged to have turned into a violent and scary event. The celebration was meant to honor important people from Ugondu, including Professor Sebastine Tar Hon, a respected lawyer and leader.

It was alleged that, the event was disrupted by the Chairman of Logo Local Government, Mr. Clement Kav, who was said to be acting on orders from Governor Hyacinth Alia. The chairman and his group didn't want Professor Hon to be honored because he's contesting against the governor in an election.

When Professor Hon arrived, the chairman and his group warned people not to honor him, saying it would be an insult to the governor. They even brought thugs to the event, who threatened to cause trouble. The police had to step in to prevent violence.

The event was canceled because of the threats and intimidation. This shows that the government is afraid of people honoring others, even if it's a peaceful event. It's not right to use power to stop people from celebrating and honoring their heroes.

Professor Hon showed great leadership by staying calm and peaceful, despite the provocation. He's a true leader who respects the law and people's rights.

The people of Benue should speak out against this kind of behavior and demand better from their leaders. Using violence and intimidation is not leadership, it's weakness.

The government should protect people's rights and freedoms, not try to control them. The people of Benue deserve better.
