Evolution | All Pro Models
Here’s the evolution of the first iPhone Pro models Camera (iPhone 11 Pro) all the way to the iPhone 17 Pro Camera!
What’s your favourite Pro iPhone?
¡Phone 11 Pro & Pro Max (2019)
What made it special:
• First iPhone Pro models with a triple-lens rear camera: Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto (all 12 MP).
• Offered Night Mode on all lenses, Deep Fusion computational imaging, and 4K video up to 60 fps.
Telephoto lens gave 2x optical
zoom in; wide + ultra-wide covered 0.5× - 2x optical range.
• Front TrueDepth camera added slofies (slow-motion selfies).
• This setup became the foundation of Apple’s modern Pro-level camera philosophy: multiple focal lengths and computational photography.
iPhone 12 Pro & Pro Max (2020)
Upgrades:
• Continued triple-lens 12 MP system
with Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto.
• Introduced Dolby Vision HDR video capture, enabling high-dynamic-range recording.
Pro Max got a larger sensor +
sensor-shift optical stabilization improvement.
• Apple focused on video improvements & better low-light performance.
iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max (2021)
Key advancements:
• Still triple rear cameras, but with
much faster apertures:
Wide: f/1.5, Ultra Wide: f/1.8,
Telephoto: f/2.8 plus LiDAR for better depth and low-light focus.
3x optical zoom in, giving a 6x optical zoom range overall.
• Introduced Night mode portraits, ProRAW photos, improved Deep Fusion, and Macro photography from the Ultra Wide.
Strong computational features with
Smart HDR 4 and new video modes like Cinematic mode (shallow depth video).
• This was a watershed moment — Apple integrated more serious photographic tools and professional-grade formats.
iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max (2022)
What changed:
• Maintained 48 MP main sensor
introduced in 15 Pro era but enhanced across lenses (sensor-shift OIS on main and tele).
Photonic Engine improved low-light
photo processing dramatically (computational imaging pipeline).
Ultra Wide and Telephoto
maintained strong zoom ranges (0.5x, 1x, 2x,3x).
Best Night Mode portraits and
cinematic video at launch.
• The 14 Pro refined what the 13 Pro introduced with better low-light and video-centric features.
