Uber Shuts Down Operation In Nigeria After 12 Years.....
Global ride-hailing company, Uber, has announced its exit from Nigeria after 12 years of operations in the country..
The company said it would wind down its Nigerian operations effective Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following a review of its business.

Uber, which launched its services in Lagos in 2014, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, describing it as a difficult decision.

“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” the company said.

The ride-hailing firm thanked Nigerians for welcoming and using its platform over the years, acknowledging the disruption its departure may cause to customers.

Uber said its help centre would remain available until September 23 to assist customers with final account-related enquiries.

The company’s operations in Nigeria had faced several challenges over the years, including protests by drivers over fares, commission rates and alleged poor treatment. Similar protests were recorded in 2017, 2023 and 2025.

Uber, which began operations globally in 2009, has now exited 14 countries across Asia and Africa.

Its departure marks the end of a 12-year presence in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving ride-hailing market.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has claimed that he once made as much as ₦10 million monthly from selling akara and bread.

The governor made the claim while speaking about his entrepreneurial journey and experiences before venturing fully into politics.

He reportedly said his experience in selling akara and bread demonstrated that individuals can build successful businesses from relatively simple ventures when they are properly managed.

His ex-wife and business partner Kim Kiyosaki recently told Vanity Fair that the $1.2 billion figure has been widely misunderstood — and does not represent money the best-selling author personally owes.

“We have a lot of apartment houses with our partners,” Kim told the magazine, putting the portfolio at some 1,500 units.

“So technically, yes, we have all this debt,” she said, adding that the borrowing is attached to real estate and that Kiyosaki’s personal share is small.

Kiyosaki has argued that debt can be a wealth-building tool when used to acquire income-producing assets.

A heartbreaking scene played out in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when a young woman stood face to face with the state Commissioner of Police and demanded answers about her brother’s death.

Anthony Obodo was the name she kept repeating. Surrounded by officers, journalists, and a growing crowd, she insisted he was unarmed when police allegedly shot him several times at close range along Agip–Ada-George Road.

Her voice was raw. She told the commissioner to bring the officers involved out into the open so they could explain why her brother was killed in broad daylight.

The family’s account, shared online, is even more disturbing. They say police chased Anthony for hours before shooting him while he was still inside his car. He was still breathing, they claim, when the officers pulled him out, took his gold chain and rings, left him lying on the roadside in the rain, and drove off with his vehicle.

A stranger later found him and rushed him to a clinic, but it was too late.

What followed only deepened their suspicion. The family says they were asked for an autopsy, and officers later showed up at the mortuary where Anthony’s body was kept, claiming they wanted to investigate.

The video of the sister confronting the commissioner has since gone viral, with many people online calling for a proper, independent probe and real accountability if the allegations hold.

At the end of the day, the question is still the same: What really happened to Anthony Obodo, and will anyone be held responsible?

For his sister, standing there in front of the police commissioner wasn’t just about anger. It was about refusing to let her brother’s death be swept aside without answers.
