HOW TO PREVENT SWIMMING POOL DEATH AT HOME.
No parent deserves to lose their growing child. Children are a source of joy to their parents. They are innocent, and tender and must be protected every time.
The tragic death incident of the son of the Nigerian music icon Davido and his fiancée Chioma has given reasons for so many unanswered questions. Despite the number of persons (about 😎 in the house; the toddler managed to find his way to the pool. He got drowned without anyone to rescue him. According to the Naija slang, “The Story no clear”.
Going by the personality of a celebrity like Davido, I am sure there are security gadgets like CCTV cameras, Security Alarms, Security door locks and more already installed in his house. Some of these gadgets if properly installed should have helped in reducing the effect of this ugly situation.
Pool Safety Equipment
As a follow-up to this incident, I will be talking about Pool Safety Equipment and Some Tech Solutions that will enhance the safety of children around a home swimming pool.
It is very important to prevent unsupervised pool access with pool safety equipment like physical barriers and alarm systems backed up with smart devices. While doing that, also learn which water rescue tools you should always have by your pool just in case a fun swim session turns into an emergency.
Pool safety equipment typically accomplishes three main goals:
Preventing unauthorized Pool Access
Sounding the alarm/sending panic alerts to smart devices when a person or pet enters the water for prompt rescue.
Rescuing someone who has entered the water
Preventing Pool Access
Preventing pool access is a major step in reducing the risk of children falling into the pool. Install pool barriers around your swimming pool and always Lock the access door to the pool when not in use. Swimming Pool barriers aren’t 100% guaranteed to keep children or pets out of the pool area, but they can slow down the efforts of children to give you a little more time to react. There are different types of pool barriers you can choose from depending on your location and the size of your pool.
Pool Alarms and alert Trigger Devices
Pool Alarms and devices are installed either inside the pool or a few perimeters around the pool. Some of these devices float on top of the water. These devices trigger an alarm when someone falls into the water or goes close to the pool especially when the pool is not in use. The downfall of most pool alarms is that they only alert you when someone has fallen into the water.
Fortunately, there are more sophisticated motion detection cameras that can do the job better. It is recommended to install a motion-sensing outdoor camera aimed at the entire pool area. The camera sends notification to a phone immediately after it senses motion. This is especially useful if there’s a possibility of kids climbing over the pool fence to bypass the locked gate.

Types of swimming pool rescue equipment
Preparing for a swimming accident can mean the difference between life and death. Keep this equipment on hand to facilitate a rescue. Get the whole family together and practice using the equipment so everyone knows what to do in a real emergency. Some of this equipment includes Ring Buoys and Pool Hook.
Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.
Sometimes we don’t realize what our kids are capable of until they do it. The moment you turn your back on them, they flop. Prepare for your child’s “undaunted courage” phase with multiple levels of pool safety alarms and equipment.
Go one step further
Sign your child up for an infant self-rescue course to teach them how to float in water should they ever accidentally fall in. This reduces the chance of them inhaling water while you rush to the rescue.
