TIPS TO STRETCH YOUR LAPTOP'S BATTERY LIFE

Your laptop stores data both in RAM and on the hard disk drive. Increasing your RAM capacity makes your laptop perform more quickly because data can be read from RAM much faster than from a hard drive. Adding more RAM to your laptop also will make your battery last longer. This is because if the data needed is not in RAM, the hard drive must be powered up, requiring about 30 times as much battery power as simply reading directly from RAM.
Also, do not expose your laptop batteries to extreme heat and cold (such as leaving them in a parked car) as this will tend to shorten the battery life. Turn off all programs that are automatically loaded that you don't currently need, as this will lessen the chances the hard drive will be accessed wasting precious power. For instance, on flight you can't connect to the internet so you probably don't need your antivirus or anti-spyware programs. Finally, turn off your wireless capabilities if you won't be connecting to the internet. The wireless unit in your computer will constantly search for wireless connections and drain power in the process.
